I'm pretty sure Sachin and Viv average about the same without Sachin bashing 2000s Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, which were worse than a lot of county sides even and simply not international status, both definitely should've scored more given the type of talent they had, for reference, I think both are far more talented than post War Hutton or Jack Kallis.
They only average the same because Tendulkar averaged less as a teen for a phase.

But anyways there isnt anything wrong with Vivs overall record. I also don't think Tendulkar underachieved. Viv perhaps underachieved because he had the tendency to get bored and lose his wicket which perhaps accounts for relatively less tons (speculation). He could have averaged 2-3 points more if he had more hunger for runs but it's still a mostly flawless record.

Yeah I checked, Sachin's average becomes 52 in that context removing Teen years (until 92)

Sachin dominated atg sa attack in 2010 and did great vs Ambrose and walsh. Smith vs good in 2014 vs sa but failed massively in 18 and 22 just like sachin did in at home in 96 and 00. I would rate sachin and smith equals vs atg attacks
I won't say he dominated that atg SA attack in 2010, more like he handled peak Steyn very well and almost single handedly saved the Cape Town test. You really cannot dominate Steyn in that sort of form.

Conversion rates for the top 20 bats + other members of Fab four (note I say the top 20, because these are my top 20, and were also the top 20 bats in both the 2022 and 2024 polls - sucks to be Dravid)

Bradman 69.05%
Headley 66.67%
Kohli 49.18%
Hammond 47.83%
Williamson 47.14%
Smith 46.75%
Sobers 46.43%
Kallis 43.69%
Chappell 43.64%
Gavaskar 43.04%
Tendulkar 42.86%
Sangakkara 42.22%
Lara 41.46%
Sutcliffe 41.03%
Ponting 39.81%
Waugh 39.0%
Pollock 38.89%
Hutton 36.54%
Barrington 36.36%
Root 35.64%
Hobbs 34.88%
Richards 34.78%

Thought looking at Hobbs pre and post war would also be instructive (iirc Hammond pre WWII was at 50%)

Pre-War Hobbs 23.81%
Post-War Hobbs 45.45%

Other leading pre war bats

Trumper 38.10%
Hill 26.92%

Hill of course with those 6 90’s, 5 of them being 96+ lol.

Nervous bloke.

Thanks for the record I don't consider this a big issue as long as output is good.

Peak Tendulkar was more watchable though. Try his 177 against a pop gun attack in Nottingham, those backfoot drives can satisfy all your visual cravings.

Yeah when he gets going he can usually convert. But his issue is how often he can get set. He only gets to 50+ in 29% of his innings, compared to the rest of the Fab Four who are all around 36-37%
makes sense, he only had more lottery runs then anyone in the fab 4 except maybe Kane.

Smith didn't destroy any bowling attacks as such like his predecessor Ricky Ponting did. His genius lies in the hand eye coordination which gave him the freedom to move across the crease in the last moment of the bowler's delivery stride, and of course his ability to accumulate runs in any conditions.
