The early to mid 80s India/England attacks were absolutely terrible. Roach is a legit good bowler. If we're writing off Smith's runs vs them as minnow bashing, why exactly should we treat Vivs runs against attacks with the likes of Mohinder Amarnath, arshad ayub etc bowling a significant number of overs as anything different.
Fair enough

I won't put runs against mid 2010s Windies anything but a level behind runs against 1950s New Zealand tbh
During that time Taylor and roach were great bolwers at home
And kemar roach has better numbers than Walsh at home

Viv maybe had 1-2 dominant series at most against what I would call truly ATG level attacks. Every attack bar WI in that era had only one great pace bowler. Unlike the 90s where where there were multiple great pace duos. None of Viv's biggest series (1976 in England, 1979 in Australia, 1985 vs nz) were against what would qualify as ATG pace attacks.

Agreed, Viv is garbage, how does that help Smith's home series against Windies?

though, I'd love to know what "ATG pace lineup" or whatever Smith took apart.

In 1988 vs Pakistan,he was the highest run scorer for west indies(avg-69),even after playing 2 tests out of 3
Furthermore, stats of Viv whenever he played lilee-thommo together (without dead rubber)
In test cricket -530 runs,12 innings,2 centuries,7 tests,all in away
In wsc supertests-303 runs,7 innings,5 supertests,all in home
Very respectable, isn't it?

I still don't see the correlation between Viv being garbage and Smith bashing a minnow level bowling in Australia in 2015, two things can be true, Viv can be garbage and Smith could've an inflated average simultaneously, they're not mutually exclusive.

Why do you sometimes give stats without wcs and With wcs?

Folks here when you point out Smith had inflation in his peak (which is obvious) think you are trashing him as a bat. Black/white thinking.

They had differing objectives and perspectives.

His job was to dominate, push the game, try to win.

Sachin's objective was scoring runs, breaking and setting records. That was his objective.
agree.. sachin is just indian kallis with a bigger fan base.
