Pakistan Tour of South Africa 2018/19

Yes. South Africa should produce South African pitches. And expect and accept Sri Lankan pitches when they play in Sri Lanka.
Yes. I hope they start producing pitches that favours their team like other teams do and it would be another 100 years before SL win a test match in SA.

As long as we don't alter the variation in our pitches.... I like that St Georges is slower and drier. Allows some options for our players to get a feel of different conditions. We just make sure we play SC temas at Wanderers, Centurion Newlands. And the Aus, Eng at St georges, Durban and Potchefstroom!

Will this spur ESPNCricinfo to ditch Pieter's 2000 and late photo? He's no longer that eager looking 19 year old!

Markram dropped. van der Dussen called up. Stands out.

Standard Bank Proteas ODI squad: Faf du Plessis (Multiply Titans, capt), Hashim Amla (World Sports Betting Cape Cobras), Quinton de Kock (Multiply Titans), Reeza Hendricks (bizhub Highveld Lions), Imran Tahir (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), Heinrich Klaasen (Multiply Titans), David Miller (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), Dane Paterson (World Sports Betting Cape Cobras), Andile Phehlukwayo (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), Dwaine Pretorius (bizhub Highveld Lions), Kagiso Rabada (bizhub Highveld Lions), Tabraiz Shamsi (Multiply Titans), Dale Steyn (Multiply Titans), Rassie van der Dussen (bizhub Highveld Lions).
CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) today named bizhub Highveld Lions batsman Rassie van der Dussen as a new cap in the Standard Bank Proteas 14-man squad for the first two Momentum ODI matches against Pakistan to be played later this month.

The squad will then be revised for the remaining three matches.

There is also a recall for World Sports Betting fast bowler Dane Paterson, who has not played for the Proteas in this format since his debut series against Bangladesh in 2017, while Hashim Amla, who missed the most recent series in Australia towards the end of last year through injury, returns to the squad.

JP Duminy and Lungi Ngidi could not be considered because of injury.

“We need to look at all the options available to us as we get closer to selecting our final squad for this year’s World Cup,” commented CSA National Selection Panel (NSP) convener Linda Zondi, “and Rassie and Dane are two players who have been knocking strongly on the door in all formats.

“Those players who went to Australia and have not been selected for the first two matches – Farhaan Behardien, Aiden Markram and Chris Morris – are by no means out of the picture and they may well get further opportunities in the second half of the series.

“We are very happy with the way in which our Vision 2019 is taking shape.

“The series against Pakistan could not have come at a better time as they will provide a very stern test for the Proteas under conditions very similar to what we will experience at the World Cup,” concluded Mr. Zondi.

Paterson and D.Pretorius are a bit meh for me.

Amla will need to find his fluent stroke-play.

Only 14 players in that squad, so I imagine Duminy will be the 15th for the World Cup and they just haven't bothered to bring anyone else in.

EDIT: Unless Markram's injury is keeping him out and Van der Dussen is there in Duminy's place.

Lets be honest chaps. Is this winning us a world cup ? The format will suit the best teams like 1992

It will take something special.

Duminy/vd Dussen
Miller
Klaasen
Lucky/Pretorius
Rabada
Steyn

* Obviously 7 batsman actually more likely right now and Pretorius will miss out on 15 ?

Amla
QdK
Hendricks/vd Dussen
Du Plessis
Duminy
Miller
Klaasen/Phehlukwayo

Re Pretorius (and Andile) Medium-pacers usually do well in England. Of course, if the ICC says billiard tables only...

Ja, that kind of military medium that Andile and Pretorius bowl could do OK in the UK. I would back Andile's bowling before Pretorius's though, he seems to vary it more (although Pretorius took six wickets in a franchise game the other day).

Van der Dussen does deserve a go. Whether he will Crack it is another story, but he did well in the MSL. Is Markram fit for Friday?

It might end up coming down to which of the two offers more with the bat as whoever they picks is going to have make a substantial contribution given the long tail.

English limited overs pitches are flat.

Phehlukwayo 10 overs 1/74 at Rose Bowl & 9 overs 2/59 at Headingley (probably one of the most helpful to medium-pacers)

Pretorius 10 overs 1/61 at Rose Bowl

Not exactly a lot of data but you get my point.

Our games

England (Oval)
Bangladesh (Oval)
India (Rose Bowl)
West Indies (Rose Bowl)
Afghanistan (Sophia Gardens) - we were pretty poor there in Champs Trophy v India
New Zealand (Edgbaston)
Pakistan (Lords)
Sri Lanka (Riverside) - here we play a medium pacer
Australia (Old Trafford)

Yeah. He does. Thing is, he is another who has to bat in the top 4 for me. His style and how he goes about targeting leg-side is a concern against quality attacks who pick this up though.

Markram is batting fine in the nets at the moment according to the press and looks to have passed his fitness test for tomorrow.

I still believe that our best option is going to be blasting out opposition batting line ups. Really don't think we have the sort of batting line up to constantly post/chase 320 plus. Unless QDK, Faf and Miller have amazing tournaments.

But if not either of them then who? They're probably the only two bowlers who could realistically bat at 7 (maybe Frylinck too, but he doesn't seem to be in contention), so if you don't play either of them then it's going to need Duminy to bowl 10 overs as the only other recognised bowler, which definitely isn't ideal.
