I still believe that our best option is going to be blasting out opposition batting line ups.
That seems to be the thinking on the selection side too as we've consistently been picking Steyn, Rabada, Ngidi, and Tahir of late, which is definitely one of the better bowling line-ups around. Ngidi's injury is a blow to that strategy though, and finding a replacement for him is a tough ask.

But if not either of them then who? They're probably the only two bowlers who could realistically bat at 7 (maybe Frylinck too, but he doesn't seem to be in contention), so if you don't play either of them then it's going to need Duminy to bowl 10 overs as the only other recognised bowler, which definitely isn't ideal.
Morris?

Batting at 7 might be one place too high for him.
Much of a muchness

D.Pretorius and Morris have 4 FC 100s with Lucky yet to get one.

Not saying Morris is the answer though because I've wanted more than we've got when he has played. I thought Graeme Smith was spot on about him on comms in the test too.

That's the thing. I can't give you an answer. I actually am warming to Frylinck - just because we haven't seen enough of him.

A big hitting batsman who can bowl finger spin would be nice. If we had one.

Smuts?

I'm a fan of picking somebody like Frylinck for no other reason than he has so much experience. And none of the others give me real confidence. I suspect it will be Morris though.

That's actually not a bad shout.

Smuts reminds me a bit of Brian McMillan, not in the way they play but in they are both big guys, who look like they don't take any s**t.

Lets be honest chaps. Is this winning us a world cup ? The format will suit the best teams like 1992

It will take something special.

Amla/Hendricks
QdK
Du Plessis
Duminy/vd Dussen
Miller
Klaasen
Lucky/Pretorius
Rabada
Steyn
Ngidi/Paterson
Tahir/Shamsi

* Obviously 7 batsman actually more likely right now and Pretorius will miss out on 15 ?

Amla
QdK
Hendricks/vd Dussen
Du Plessis
Duminy
Miller
Klaasen/Phehlukwayo
Rabada
Steyn
Ngidi/extra bowler
Tahir/Shamsi
A team with Phehlukwayo and Shamsi in playing XI can never win a WC. Also tail starts at no 8 with Rabada. Same issue was in CT 2017 where Pak got few early wickets and then the tail bogged down the scoring rate.

We gave up on Mulder far too quickly. Faf and Otis been saying that they need a number 7 who's primarily a batsmen who can bowl. Mulder is that guy. If I was a selector, Morris or Mulder would be my number 7.

I don't think they've given up on Mulder at all. They are giving everybody a fair chance and Mulder has only just come back off injury. We see what happens still playing 5 ODI's against Pak, and 5 against SL.

I prefer Dala over Paterson. And I think Markram will be in the WC squad, but giving van Dussen a chance is fair. I still don't think we should be playing Miller and Klaasens in the same team.

You can’t really argue with Markram’s dropping from the ODI side. 16 games, 1 fifty with an average of 25. Granted he is a much better player than that, and you back him (long-term) over the likes of Hendricks but he has been really poor in this format and had a number of chances, on good batting wickets against iffy opposition to make runs.
Pretorius did surprisingly well in Australia with the ball and you would have fancied him beforehand to get smashed, so he deserves to continue. Morris is the more exciting player but ordinary record at international level, injuries galore in recent years and not many standout games for the Proteas. Would be a better bet for next year’s 20/20 WC.
Also, looks like the selectors going by the recent article on Sport24 have not given up on Olivier and Nortje, and as Gibson wants 3 quicks in the side who can bowl 145 KPH, if Ngidi isn’t fit in time, expect to see one of them travel.
I’m not sold on Dane Paterson as well. Decent at the death but seems very hittable upfront.

Looks a good toss to win. Yasir Shah's been dropped, and if not for a de Bruyn brain fart, he would have gone the whole series without a wicket and we would still be on for no spinner taking a wicket in this series.

Asked to describe his batting style before the test Zubayr said he is at times free-flowing but he is also willing to graft and fight for the team.

Tick.
