Overrated/Underrated

Underrated - A very good bowling record, averaged under 30, took over 4 wickets a match and a good economy rate.

Daniel Vettori
Slightly overrated - isn't very good against real international sides with the ball, but he's probably the best batsman in the side.

It is quite hard to say. I used to love the guy, but much of his Test career was either dismal or fortuitous. On the other hand though, he did play some very vital knocks and his bowling was at times surprisingly effective (particularly against India).

However, his off-field episodes over the last couple of years have probably overshadowed the good aspects of his career. He was a very, very good ODI player - his batting at #5 was often top-notch, his fielding was magnificent and he was a useful and versatile fifth-bowler/part-timer.

Overall, I'd say that he's overrated by some Australian cricket fans, who seemed to view him as some kind of cult figure because of his mannerisms, but very much underrated by some on this board and possibly by many Indian fans because of his role in various affairs with Harbhajan. I can't say whether he's underrated or overrated elsewhere or not.

With that in mind, perhaps I'd lean towards underrated, but that might be due to Queensland bias. :p

Mitchell Johnson (always a divisive cricketer)

Hmmm. Personally, he's the strangest cricketer. When on song, he's lethal, when not, he still takes wickets but doesn't look threatening. I'd personally lean towards underrated, but it's a close run thing.

Matthew Hayden. Will bound to get interesting responses. :p

Definitely either over rated or under rated by most people.. But given the way he is taken for in these boards.. I will say underrated.

I think most people have him about right, but I'll say overrated because occasionally people ignore his poor glovework.

Overrated, partly because of the fact that he struggled after 1982.

Overrated, three five wicket hauls show that in a way. Was only very good for a short period of time.

If it turns out that Kamran Akmal really was dropping them all on puropse, does that make him underrated as a keeper?

We'll never know! Which begs the question, is it better to tank, or be mildly disabled?

Under rated. Carried the pace bowling of his country for ages. And a great batsman to watch too.
Victor Trumper

Should be interesting
overrated by romantics, and underrated by average-crazies...will stick my neck out and say overrated overall.

gotta disagree with this sorry chum.

Good thinking Captain, great leggie and steady bat. Matter of fact for quite some time held the record for the fastest Test 100. Fantastic tactician.

I personally think that he had an OK technique as a keeper, at least he was technically a much better keeper than someone like Matt Prior.

And I also think that there's a great chance that he was dropping most of them on purpose (read money), though I don't think accusing him of anything without proof is fair. So, I'll have to conclude that he was a **** keeper, at least for the time being. :)

I think the idea mate, is we're rating the player the person above us has listed, then at the end of the post naming someone we want the next person to comment on.

Though I've explained that poorly I believe.

Now if you want to talk underated..........

Jeff Thompson

200 odd test wickets BUT in tandem with another pace bowler , in particular one D K Lillee, proved the perfect foil for intimidation. great team man and definitely enjoyed his drop of ale at the end of the day.Made fishing as an alternative sport for cricketers fashionable.
