GB get a finalist in the women's 3000m steeplechase after she steals it on the line.

German athlete misses out because she slowed up.

Kenyan athlete in heat 3 has a technique for water jump that's giving me the fear. Looks like she's going to slip off the barrier every time.

Casual 2hr marathons where each km is being run sub 3 minutes. It’s insane.
10,000m the other night was the fastest race in Olympic history, top 13 all ran under the previous Olympic record and they were banging out 64 second laps for 25 laps, which is absolutely wild.

For comparison I did an interval session a couple of weeks ago where I was doing 1 min intervals with 1 min rest and I was going between 250m and 270m on my intervals.

edit: the marathon record is such an interesting one, because I think the 2hr barrier is almost psychological the way the 4 minute mile used to be. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a few years for them to go under with Kipchoge ageing and Kiptum sadly passing away, but I think once someone does go under in a proper race he'll be followed by quite a few others and we'll rapidly get down to 1:58 type marathons.

Tough on the women sprinters to be out doing the 200 the day after the 100.

Yeah, agree. Kipchoge has proved it can be done with lots of assistance so think it's only a matter of time it happens in a race

If someone could be fast (gold medalist fast) but just make it look like the majority of us, they would be instant worldwide people's champion.

There's a Ugandan chap in our running group who is quick (1h25 for a half) but not mega fast. His running style is just different to us Brits. Barely moves his upper body and glides along.

Kiptum was apparently doing it in training before he passed. He absolutely would have done it if he was still with us, although maybe not this year if his focus was the Olympics.

She is the World Record holder running like that, so 🤷🏾‍♂️. Anyway received wisdom is that the reason why Kenya only produces world class performances in track is that the athletes can get by entirely without the need of meddling, corrupt (and often downright parasitic) sports administrators. Unorthodox techniques are bound to arise.

Tonight is probably the last chance for Timothy Cheruiyot to stop being the perennial bridesmaid of mens 1500m, though I wouldn't put it past the other Cheruiyot to upstage him.

That, and doping.

**** me the 400 is fast these days. Jogging around a heat and clocking 44.1, when 20 years ago you'd be challenging for gold in the final with that.

I love that despite the advancement of technology in apparel and shoes etc, the bib name/numbers are still attached with safety pins.
