Whatever it takes!!!
The more I think about this, the more correct it is, even if the weather in England was perfectly fine.

- Massive boost for a minor cricketing nation
- A truly neutral venue, since nobody has experience in those conditions
- No Englishmen
You would think so, but...........

Sibin sums it up: "Its raining everywhere, reporting from Kigali, Rwanda ( 6200 miles away from England ). Though its not the rainy season the nature gives exact feeling of Southampton ground to the cricket fans here."

Not keen to make this a timeless test. Changes the whole dynamic of the game. But yeah if it's capped to 450 overs just over as many days as that takes that would be fine.

Anyway I actually can see Kane and Kholi agreeing to forfeit the first innings if it comes down to it.

Will make this whole thing a farce imo. Its a test match that will be reduced to one day bullshit. But yeah, not like there's any alternative. Sucks to be a fan though.

Question: is it 98 overs to be bowled today, or will that not happen until the reserve day isn’t able to compensate for overs lost?

How will it be a farce? What is happening right now is a farce. But if we had it as 450 overs over unlimited time, it would have been a normal test match that is unaffected by rain.

Other than, potentially, continually coming off and going on the field for rain breaks, which definitely provides disruption to the batsmen and also makes management of the ball a difficult issue for the bowling side to contend with. 450 overs over unlimited time also provides more breaks for the bowlers. It still isn't quite the same dealio, is it.

The obvious solution is that the WTC final should have been a three test series.
Makes sense although remember NZ only play maximum 2 test series regardless of whether they're number 1, or heading for the WTC

I'm hoping they work out a Duckworth-Lewis method, which means the Kiwi's lose on a technicality, that was clearly in the stated rules of the comp, we know they'll take that type of thing well...

To date we have the best possible scenario assuming this ground's drainage is as good as has been suggested. Been watching this cam https://worldcams.tv/united-kingdom/southampton/port and unless my eyes are playing tricks it hasn't been raining for the last few hours. Apparently the groundstaff believe they'll need 3 hours to get things ready from the time it stops raining, so fingers crossed it's stopped & we can get a start on time.

That isn't a highway

Was talking about forfeiting innings'. Have no problem with a timeless test even without the 450 overs cap.

Nobody is forfeiting innings any time soon. I'd guess both skippers would rather settle with sharing the trophy than making it a 1 innings game. Too risky.

I thought they changed the rules to prevent captains from colluding and forfeiting innings in test matches. Both because it makes the game a farce and could be exploited for match fixing.

Didn't know that, but if that is the case then technically they just have to face 1 ball and just declare for effectively the same outcome

I may have that wrong, but I remember it coming out of the furor surrounding a test where the captains forfeited the first innings (was it Aus v SA? can't remember). I think the problem was the collusion and could be investigated post match as technically match fixing.
