I may be wrong but very tall bowlers have generally not been successful on subcontinent decks, right? Are there any tall ATG pacers who have been good in sc?

A fear of not being able to win over a series is more than a fear of not being able to win an one off game too though. Its all swings and rounabouts. I see no reason to change it coz I really dont think the ICC can. But its incredibly biased to write off a valid thought as a whinge.
New Zealand won fair and square and was clearly the better team. But the 3-test series thing was talked about before the game as well and makes sense. Unlike a WC, where you are playing a limited number of games in a 2-3 months of time and getting to the top of the table, test championship is a very long process where you have to win series after series to reach the top. You can't have a one-match finale is what I think, but what were these guys doing the whole time?? Didn't the team management know this earlier? The timing of this thing is a little off even though I would really want to see a 3-match series to determine the winners going forward. If I am not wrong, the talks of wanting a 3-match series started right before the WTC final which doesn't help.

Whatever it takes!!!
The tall ones are not that hittable in India but it remains to be seen how KJ goes. For my money, I think he will taper off everywhere but will do better than what many seem to expect in the SC.

Also, if KOs are such a pinnacle, the ICC KO tournaments of 1998 and 2000 and 2002 were far greater (and clutcher) wins than any of the WCs were.

Yeah I think he'll at least remain economical unless he gets frustrated. The idea of him getting sMaShEd seems far-fetched to me.

i like a mix of group stage and knock outs. knock outs are special, and i like the new twist theyve brought to test cricket. it was interesting watching both sides know every partnership and wicket meant the world.

Depends on the fields and how his captain uses him etc. too. And like most other bowlers, it really depends on how the rest of the bowling attack go as well. If they suck, he will find it hard too. One thing that can happen in India is that you can get a lot more singles off the fast bowlers than it happens in SENA. Like you said, if he lets that frustrate him or not will be a key thing to see.

Yeah, it is great theatre. Now to ensure we get actual sunlight and play in future editions.

Lol... critical.. try "needlessly combative". I was just pointing out it did make it to the ICC videos as it deserved to. :)

Personally I think the turning point was the Nicholls catch, as I pointed out in another post here.
No, I'm not being combative. It means undertaking an intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action (per The Foundation for Critical Thinking).

I think it's the dumbest whinge. The ODI and T20 WCs are decided on a Final, should we change those to 3-match series as well?
Trying to compare oranges with apples. The t20 and odi WC is a one month affair. Test championship is a 2 year affair.

A T20 last 3 hours, ODI 8 hours, and a Test 5 days (+ reserve day in the Final). Seems entirely proportional if you ask me. If anything the shorter formats should be the ones playing a 3-match or 5-match finals series, given how easy it is to fluke a result in such a short time frame + how much easier that would be to schedule.

As mentioned earlier, the group stages of the WTC are what needs work, not the concept of a Final.

3 match series for a final is definitely excessive

however true that having an Asian team v non-Asian team play a 1 off Test is kind of ****ed a bit given the influence of conditions

Re: a one off final in a competition based on serieses.

The next WTC cycle wont be based on test series anyway, will be based on points per test.

This WTC also wasn't based on series, was changed to points per test after covid stuffed the schedules.
