Nothing wrong with what they're doing, I think it's pretty cool even if plenty of metrics and conclusions they use the data to come up with are flawed. The cricket is good, but lol at MaChInE LeArNiNg
Agreed, I'm just extremely skeptical of private learning models.Nothing wrong with what they're doing, I think it's pretty cool even if plenty of metrics and conclusions they use the data to come up with are flawed.
It's all heading in the right direction imo.
What you're leaving out here is the quality of the bowling. It's not "stupidly nightmarish conditions", it's helpful bowling conditions plus stupidly good bowling, met by stupidly good batting.Yeah, this is some amazing levels of cricket in what are really almost nightmarish conditions for batting. As someone posted earlier, this is the swing equivalent of the Ahmedabad D/N test and it just shows how good both batting sides have been that we have seen them both score more than 200 here.
I think @hendrix took offence to me suggesting any visiting side in the spin equivalent of these conditions like Ahmedabad D/N test would be rolled for a 100. To clarify, if this did happen in say Dubai and conditions and pitch were equally loaded in favor of the spinners, I do expect NZ to make 200 coz their batting is quality even against top quality spin, and they were not far from this level even in 2016 when they lost 3-0 in India. The only issue would be the lack of spinners on their side to pose similar questions at the Indian batsmen.
I said nightmarish conditions for batting, not nightmarish pitch. And I think it is justified. This is not a pitch where bad bowling will be punished, it just means it will be survived. And I think only the D/N Ahmedabad test wicket was a raging turner but that was accentuated by the pink ball skimming off the surface much more quickly which made the straight ball almost impossible to play for most batsmen, which again was a product of the conditions. The same ground for the next test produced a much better pitch where both swing and spin held sway and good batting was rewarded, again, just like this current game but aiding spin more than swing.India don't need to produce raging turners at home because their spinners are better than everyone else and thus should get rewarded for good bowling by...bowling well to a level that others can't reach. Raging turners or stupidly flat wickets
One of the tests in NZ last year was pretty tight at this point in the game. India actually had a small first innings lead if Im not wrong. Fell apart in the second innings.I respect India a lot out of this game tbh. Like yes, they smoked Australia with their C team which was amazing but this is the first time ever they've gone toe to toe with NZ in proper swing bowling conditions. Some previous games probably look close, but those were cases of flawed batsmen unable to handle the conditions and folding like a house of cards. This time NZ are having to get India out.
Usually in games like this where NZ bowl first India or whoever fold for 150, NZ get early wobbles but someone makes a partnership, opposition get frustrated and go searching and NZ engine room memes to 400. Game done.
Hopefully we can make India work as hard when we tour later this year. I expect India to win 2-0 but I want NZ to make India work for it.
Yeah we went toe to toe with both NZ and England and were in winning positions plenty of times, only to get ****blocked by Curran/Jamieson.One of the tests in NZ last year was pretty tight at this point in the game. India actually had a small first innings lead if Im not wrong. Fell apart in the second innings.
Yeah, it was pretty much par up to that point. That was the first time the all-pace attack in this game played together, and my memory of the second innings was they were relentless and would have dismantled most sides. Boult had a couple of Akram-esque bowleds from around the wicket, Wagner and Jamieson nailed the short pitched stuff and even CdG chipped in with the Kohli wicket (which he has lived off a fair bit in this game TBH).One of the tests in NZ last year was pretty tight at this point in the game. this seems like it's a direct lift from football's xg.- "Expected wickets is a model that measures the likelihood that a certain ball will result in a wicket based on the characteristics of that delivery. It considers granular tracking aspects such as speed, line and length, swing in the air, deviation off the pitch as well as contextual match factors"
I would agree with you if the conditions were not rewarding good bowling and batting, but they're clearly rewarding both.
However final should be timeless test otherwise huge chance of draw because of slow over rate.Making the final a sole test match does have its merits. I don't think either side would have played with as much discipline if this was a 3 test series for example.
Having two days washed out is probably more of a contributing factor to that. However final should be timeless test otherwise huge chance of draw because of slow over rate.
Even more reason to make it timeless then.Having two days washed out is probably more of a contributing factor to that.
