Australia's team and their roles look muddled. You either get more out of McGrath/Sutherland and Cheatle with the ball or you pick another specialist spinner (Wareham)

Garth could actually be effective bowling longer spells. Very much a rhythm bowler. Shame King hasn't had an impact thus far. Thought she'd be a real handful in these conditions

Healy is not a good tactician on the evidence of this game and the Ashes earlier in the year. I have real concerns about the side tbh, it seems a bit of a muddle right now. Too many all-rounders, not enough specialists.

Yeah largely agree. Healy doesn't seem great at staying in the present and just going with her best bowlers on the day. Too many pre conceived plans.
In saying that I think Sutherland will be seriously good and will probably bat 3/4 very soon where I feel she can truly showcase her capabilities. Top cricketer

Wellington has also been pretty harshly treated itbt. She's still pretty young but I do think she should be in the squad at least

:( I thought u were a believer, Sparky.
There are levels to these things. This Aus women's team is not far off pre-pandemic NSW levels of all-rounder overload.

Using eight bowlers in four sessions with all but one of the bowlers having bowled at least eight overs but having one bowler also bowl forty-one overs clearly indicate that something has gone quite wrong. I have no idea how you're meant to build up pressure as a bowling partnership and implement bowling plans in those circumstances.

I was just joking about how I am supposed to love all-rounders over specialists. :) I think having options is always good for a side, but you should always know your tier 1 folks and your tier 2 folks are, especially with the bowling attack in tests.

With this many options though you end up with, say, McGrath being chronically underbowled (which was a problem during the Ashes too) and the eighth bowling option doesn't really add much even if that bowling option is as good as Jess Jonassen. If Gardner is going to be the lead spinner then there is no reason not to pick one more specialist bat.

Anyone else see similarities between this Test and First Test of BG Trophy this year till now.

Aus feeling they are back in the game only to be frustrated by 8 th wicket partnership ( Jadeja/Axar at Nagpur)

Agreed, an extra bat instead of King would make sense.

Gardner is clearly the best bowler, but after that it's really much of a muchness and who happens to bowl best on the day. You sense Healy is always trying to find out who that person is. It's definitely more options than she needs and leads to confusion - I think we made this point in the Ashes too and it seems no lessons have yet been learnt. It affects all formats too, not just the Test.

that perry's only played twelve long form matches is just nuts. i understand that women's test matches probably aren't that financially viable but the icc's got to learn from the cricket australia women's cricket model of cross subsidising now with the men's game until the women's game gets big enough that it self sustains

really great by the bcci they're playing this at the wankhede though and full credit to them for that

Still a mountain to climb for Australia, but they've done a pretty good job so far.

Will be really interesting to see what happens today. Wish it was on TV here.

EDIT: A wicket fourth ball - not the start Australia were hoping for.
