I'm wondering why they keep playing Green if they aren't going to use him in the WC. Is there some suggestion Stoinis is injured?

Stoinis has been bought back for the england series, apparently. Feels wierd to play green and make him miss out on shield cricket with 2 huge series and a potential WTC final around the corner.

Stoinis is injured now, but expected to be fit for the World T20

edit: and I'm assuming (or even hoping ) that they are expecting for a spot to become available through injury and Green will be added. If they have no plans to add him to the squad then they wouldn't be playing him

If Finch is comitted to a middle-order role it opens the door for the opening spot beside Warner. I'd prefer Green but if he isn't going to play Smith would be very well suited to build the innings around, especially if Warner is going to be hyper-agressive like he was looking to last night

I don't mind it. Giving 1 guy an absolute license like that at the top of the order will pay off on balance.

He should have made the call to hang up the boots more than 6 months ago but it got the to stage where it was too close to the World T20, so he was in a tough spot with the team not wanting to change captains right before the tournament and either choice ends up being wrong
