***Official*** West Indies tour of Sri Lanka, November/December 2021

I'd like to see Lewis and Pooran try their hand at the longer format too.

They desperately need to get the FC Season back up and running in February.

Hetmyer for some time now is batting too rashly, getting out to shots he knows himself isn't there but keeps doing it. Much could be said the same for the likes of Blackwood.

Chase has went from looking like a decent middle-order batsman to becoming a bits n pieces cricketer.
So the 4 day season will happen next year, which is great. But tbh I'm so fed up I would just include Lewis, Pooran and Hety and be done with it. We have nothing to lose. Hety has been irresponsible I agree but his ceiling is just so much higher than anyone in this current lineup and he plays spin so much better.

Don't worry they're trying to make hard work of the FC Season.

From what I've read they are hoping to play a full season although it's likely to be 5 rounds with Guyana, Leeward Islands and Trinidad & Tobago playing the first 3 rounds away from home because they are host venues for the U-19 CWC.

Trinidad and Tobago are currently in the middle of having 3 trial matches.

Yep logistically West Indies is the hardest place in the cricket world to organise anything. Our 4 day season is horrendously expensive for the board.

Still, at this point any cricket will do! We just need people that aren;t the usual suspects to score some runs.

Oshada Fernando needs to be replaced. And we saw that two fast bowlers was excessive. If the pitch remains same, then there is reason to drop a fast bowler.

My XI.

Dimuth Karunarathne*
Pathum Nissanka
Kamil Mishara
Angelo Mathews
Dinesh Chandimal+
Charith Asalanka
Dhanajaya de Silva
Ramesh Mendis
Suranga Lakmal
Lasith Embuldeniya
Praveen Jayawickrama

Yep that seems logical to me, even less respite for our batsmen.

Good to see that the windies have determined that cornwall was the root of all there issues and not, I don't know, the guys averaging >30 way into there test careers. Shortening the batting lineup even further and removing one of there key slip fielders when dropped catches already cost them the last game is so incredibly smooth brained. I know cornwall hasn't exactly lit the world on fire, but he had 2 catches dropped off his last match and his batting was one of the only reasons the windies weren't completely stomped last game.

rahkeem is such an easy scapegoat given he's a big boy and it shits me because you're entirely right, absolutely sucks to see him dropped here when as you say he really was one of the few things that stopped the west indies from being totally kerplunked

I feel like the current selectors are consistently messing up. The white ball squads to Pakistan are genuinely nonsensical as well, with Shai Hope selected for the T20's.

On another note, a 2 test series at one venue like Galle where the toss is so crucial is so meh. Sri Lanka win both tosses, basically ending the series as a contest. What is the point?

Also feeling slightly sorry for our guys as in both the World Cup and now here we have basically lost all but one important toss. No doubt we would have found a way to lose anyway, rain or not, but the toss at Galle is literally half way to winning when the teams are evenly(ish) matched.

I wasn't a huge fan of Jason Holder tactically, but one thing that has deteriorated massively under Kraigg's captaincy is the reviewing. We're just so bad at it now.

Considering he averages 46 with the bat against Sri Lanka and consistently seems to make things difficult for us, I'm pleased that they've decided to drop him for this game.

Is Pooran not good enough to make the West indies Test XI? Looks like a good bat to me whenever I've seen him play (which is admittedly not often).

Our selectors don;t have an innovative bone in their body. He doens;t play red ball and therefore isn;t seen as an option.

Chase is so poor. Got a lucky five wicket haul including reverse sweep dismissals and all sorts in the last test. Here he is effectively playing as a specialist spinner and doing a terrible job.

Edit: and he gets the captain  . Doesn;t change the fact he is bowling a whole pile of rubbish.

Warrican and Permaul both looked very threatening. This looks like your classic "bat first, if you get anything over 350 you win" pitch. Depressing!

Oh no, I assumed that this is a "2 fah 1" for us.
Permaul needs to attack the pads of Nissanka, don't give him any room.
Warrican is a more loopy bowler if I can recall.
But it's good signs for our spinners. Asalanka is gonna be a handful.

The issue is even on faster pitches, WI found SL attack handful. Especially when Lahiru Kumara played. On a seaming track, Lakmal, Chammera and Lahiru Kumara would be a daunting prospect if WI are playing batsmen on display. Unless Pooran and Hetmyer is played in that lineup (both will inconsistently, but spectacularly fire) it would get mauled by any half decent bowling attack.

I've had it in for Chase for ages - underperforming batsman numero uno in this WI side. If he wants to be valued for bowling instead then he can go bat at 8 and compete with the other spinners for a spot.
