*Official* West Indies Tour of India 2018

India's largest victory, West Indies second largest loss.

The fact that most of what little conversation there is here is about the forthcoming Australia series shows how little any of us give a ****.
I am gonna produce this thread next time someone talks about the glories of test cricket and how weaker teams should get more chances to play the stronger ones. It's a ruthless format that completely and utterly exposes anyone who is not up to it.

Yea no one wants to see 5 test series vs certain teams.

But India - South Africa only playing 3 is dreadful. The last few series (in South Africa) have been brilliant - think 2011 with Sachin's last stand vs Steyn, the recent one with Kohli etc. We barely got a simmer. It really needed 5 tests to develop.

Well done India. Can say what you like about he other mob but when you’ve got a team down, the good sides bury them. And they did.

Forget about all the comparisons to Tendulkar, predictions for 30 Test hundreds and all that other noise.

Just take a moment to really put yourself in his shoes and imagine how you'd feel like bringing up a Test match 100. Can't help but smile when watching it. Sport is wonderful.

India's spinners stat padding is getting a bit confusing. When we compare spinners it's getting hard. It's a big issue that they don't have to bowl to their own batsmen too (and opposing spinners have to bowl to the Indian players). Difficult to compare Indian and non-Indian spinners. Even more so when India only pick certain bowlers in favourable home conditions against poor teams.

Good win nonetheless. Good to see Kohli hitting another ton in my view. He's the best Indian batsman ever and will cement that over the course of his career . Good to see Shaw hit a ton. West Indies is too weak from top to bottom though. It was never going to be a contest for India.

The impact is much less now than it used to be in the case of Warne (and Murali when he toured India).
India does not have very good players of spin these days; the current lot fared worse against ATVG Moeen Ali (in England) than the older lot did against Warne.

Ali is a good bowler in England. Doesn't help India don't respect his bowling enough. India plays spin well in general.

That's a slippery slope to go down because you can do that for anyone.

McGrath never had to bowl to Australia.
Ponting never had to face Australia's bowling.

Conversely, should we add +2.5 / +5 or + what to Tendulkar's average because he was unlucky never to have to had to face the mediocre Indian bowling?

Ashwin's first class average is 26.84 vs his test average of 25.45. Jadeja's is 23.57 vs test average of 23.44.

The home and away averages tell you a lot (+9.12 for Ashwin away vs home, +17 for Jadeja albeit a smaller sample), but not sure "they don't have to bowl to Indian batsmen" is the best argument for so many reasons, but also because this lot of Indian (test) batsmen aren't really the best players of spin like the 90/00 class was.

On that note, Jadeja's home average of 19.55 from 27 tests is quite something. That's some serious HTB which needs to be admired (much like Jimmy Anderson's).

I do that for everyone in my head. You have to take variables into account. Including what team they play for, bat for, bowl for, bowl in tandem with etc. It isn't just numbers that are on their cricinfo profile..

Shakoor Rana was the name. Miandad's LBW record at home is a testament to his (selective) grace too.

Why WI is playing more tests than New Zealand is beyond me.

3 test series btw India vs NZ played in NZ would be so cracking!
