I am not sure if he will get into India's. Kohli, Pujara and Rahane all better IMO and you know I don't think we should play a #6 batsman when we have Jaddu, Pant and Ashwin as our 6,7 and 8 almost anywhere in the world.

But yeah, I am not saying Bell is a bad batsman or anything. Like I said, he was good, but not quite "gun" level for me, which was the comment that triggered all of this discussion.
Bell >>> Rahane, and I’m no Bell fan at all (presume that’s who you’re speaking of here)

So am finally up to speed on this.

Windies have Hetmeyer and Bravo missing. Pooran wasn't brought in either, understandably. So the batting is rickety. Shai Hope and Brathwaite will have to deliver. Gabriel is available for selection.

England are missing Root and are dithering on selecting Anderson on fitness grounds. The English top 4 is set to be Burns, Sibley, Denly, and Pope. Foakes will probably be left out. Bess is the first choice spinner.

Did I miss something?

Where does Crawley fit it in - at #6? Will Broad be selected? Aren't Woakes and Archer ahead of him in the pecking order?
Who is replacing Hetmeyer and Bravo? Is Gabriel a sureshot selection?
Why are the bookies favouring England?

England are favourites because this is being played in England.

There has been some speculation about Broad not being picked but still think he is comfortably ahead of Woakes. Kind of hard to say where Archer is right now.

Crawley will bat 4.

Look forward to watching him.

Well, looking forward to watching any cricket tbh.

As it’s no longer June, it might rain. Whats the forecast? Will throw hands if it rains tomorrow night after waiting so long for some cricket.

Yeah weather is not looking great for the first couple of days...

According to the forecast there's at least a 30% chance of rain throughout the first two days but the last three should be dry. Should be enough play for a result. Brian Lara says if the Windies are going to win it has to be in four days because they can't last five.

Yeah but you have a fervent bias against Rahane, so counts as much as any Bell fan's opinion. :p
Not really. He’s been pretty bloody bad for a while. It’s just that I always knew he would end up cod ordinary, whereas some folks seemed to think he was going to be exceptional. It’s ok, we all make bad predictions - I said about 2002 that McGrath wouldn’t play another test owing to his ankle injury or something. It happens.

TBF, I was with you about the Jinks over rating, especially the folks who thought he was better than Kohli. But I feel now we are going too much in the opposite direction. Bloke has a lot of ability, just needs to work out how he wants to bat and also get it out of his head that he can be any kind of LO player for India. It is what has gotten to him, IMO.

Think I saw it somewhere. Can't remember where so it could be wrong of course. Imagine they are still thinking of Denly as the 3 and that Crawley is the Root replacement. Might change depending on what happens in this match though.

Ed Smith when he announced the squad said he was expecting Denly to bat 3, but also added that coach and captain would get final say on that.
