Yeah JDS is definitely one of those guy's who should be batting higher. Don't have specific number's to back this up, but every time i've seen him in the runs at the level below this it's been opening, or atleast batting lower down the order.
I saw some extended highlights of yesterday and got to say the way JDS went about trying to play the short one more selectively after getting out hooking twice last test was pretty impressive.

Lyon been fairly underwhelming so far today; bowled too short and had a rather negative mindset bowling around the wicket quite often.

Not the first lacklustre spell he's bowled this summer.
I don't mind his around the wicket line, it works for him at this ground, but his trajectory seems quite flat at the moment.
With all the chatter from us about how Lyon has pretty obviously been much more innocuous this season, I just remembered that unless something intercedes he'll be playing a full season of county cricket this year. Might give him the game time to get some mojo back before the India series, albeit he may not play some of the early season games due to the pitches.

I think it would actually be good for him to play those early season games tbh. He's never been a bowler who struggles on greentops.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he isn’t driving though the injured leg like he used to yet. Not unusual to see someone come back and not fully trust the injured body part for a while afterwards.

I guess this is true. Is there any sense that counties feel obligated - financially or otherwise - to play their big name overseas pros even when they usually wouldn't?
I have no idea. Whichever team Arshdeep Singh was playing for kept playing him even though he was terrible (much to my surprise, I thought his skillset would have been very suited to England).

Lyon will clearly be Lancashire's primary spinner (forcing out Hartley), but the early season pitches are such that they might not feel obliged to play one at all, and he's not an allrounder. So who knows?

Yeah I'd be interested in a side-by-side comparison of how he's bowling now vs, say, Delhi or Indore just to see how much energy he's putting through his crease. I might go have a look at that now actually.

So this WI team not only has to face 4 of the top 11 bowlers, they also have to bowl to 4 of the top 9 batsman according to latest ICC Rankings

3. Smith
4. Labuschagne
5. Head (only 1 point behind Marnus)
9. Khawaja

2. Cummins
4. Hazlewood
10. Lyon
11. Starc

informed that after an hour or so the windies were stuck at 1-15 and england were 0-44

moral victories only get you so far but this effort’s been very good from WI and goes some way sort of to rectifying the collapse in the field they showed when they had a chance in the first game

Not watching the other test but at drinks after first hour WI were not 1-15, they were a respectable 1-31 off 13 overs
yeah righto
i suppose the same point can be made with 64-5 vs 55-0, either way it’s a really good effort from the WI to be in the position where they are vs where they were
