*Official* West Indies in Sri Lanka 2010

Might become 4th soon the way Ashes are going ATM. But frankly speaking they don't deserve a ranking more than 4 or 5.
Sri Lanka's bowling is the real issue, in my opinion. The attack looks mediocre without Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan.

Yep a real dent for New Zealand to see the rain basically reverse all our progress that we made in our tour to India.

Tbf though I thought we were just as impressive as you guys were in India during what little play there was. We were denied a win by the rain in the 1st test lets not forget.

You guys certainly did well in that first Test but the rain just ruined it IMO. There were signs you could deserve this result but overall I don't think you did with the amount of play there was.

During what play there was the two teams were completely matched. We dominated the first and would have won without rain, Sri Lanka dominated the 2nd and would have won without rain. The 3rd test did not have enough play to say who was on top. Therefore a drawn series is a fair result.

I think NZ and West Indies are pretty evenly matched at the moment, especially when we are without Taylor and Edwards.

But with this series you leaped way ahead of us. :(

It's all part of the WICB's devious plan to climb the rankings in spite of a highly dubious captain and selection process.

Hurricane season test matches at home, Monsoon season test matches away, we'll be in the top 4 by the end of 2011:).

Julian Hunte is a genius. First insisting on Sammy as captain and now this? Clearly the best President we have ever had.

Well West Indies did find Bravo. Fans of WIs must be real happy about that.

Rather a stretch to say West Indies would of won the first Test if not for the rain. Approximately 422 overs were bowled in the match. Bowling 90 overs a day = 450 overs a Test, so WI needed 6 more wickets in 28 overs say. No way would I call that a guarantee. Having said that, if wins were awarded on which team played better it would definitely be WI.

It surprises me that games that are badly affected by rain can have the same weight as games that haven't been. Two games were effectively rained out with no realistic hope for a result, but the ratings don't take that in to account.

Yeah, agree. They had a chance to pick up a couple more quick wickets after Sanga fell in the 2nd innings but they dropped catches. After that, SL were safe.

Yeah the ratings aren't fair at times hopefully they can make some improvements on things such as this.

I think a tied series is a fair result, because when you look at the batting and bowling stats on both sides, they were fairly evenly matched....

It's not like the Lankans dominated the series - far from it.

I don't mind that at all but that it impacted the standings so heavily is what I dislike.

It only impacted the standings so much because of how big the gulf was between the teams.

That's for one of 2 reasons: Either the gap in the rankings was artificially high, or SL are that good and WI that bad.

I think the first of those to be more true than the second, so in effect the table was only bringing things back towards a more realistic representation of the relative strengths of the teams.
