*Official* West Indies in Sri Lanka 2010

Disagree. I think West Indies really stepped it up this series. How often do we see a Gayle triple anyway? Also Roach really stepped up this season.

Lets give the devil credit... due credit whats due.. well something to that effect.

Exactly....

Credit due to the Windies for matching the Lankans, despite the supposed gulf in the rankings.

Now, the rain has worrsened, and the ODI series has been postponed to late January!

When do India tour West Indies? Honestly reckon the West Indies will be a real handful in the next two years if they can just find another bowler to match Roach and get rid this Sammy/Bravo problem

International Vice-Captain
I see Jerome Taylor has been passed fit and selected for the Jamaica squad in the T20 tournament in January.

Fidel Edwards is also making his return to competitive cricket today, where he will be playing club cricket in Barbados (of a high standard though, Kemar Roach will be openning the bowling for the opposition:laugh:).

This is all great news for our bowling attack. Fingers crossed they both get through the T20 competition unscathed and ready to face Pakistan.

If they are both fit, it is going to cause a real problem for the WICB and I just cannot see how Sammy will remain captain of the test side.

A first choice West Indies XI in February next year may read:

Gayle
Barath
Bravo (Darren)
Chanderpaul
Sarwan
Nash
Baugh Jr (WK)
Sammy (c)
Taylor
Benn
Roach

Reserves:

Devon Smith
Dwayne Bravo
Fidel Edwards
Nelon Pascal

Now I would be very surprised if anyone can keep a straight face and tell me that Dwayne Bravo and Fidel Edwards should be on the sidelines whilst Sammy plays. It's a ridiculous situation that was always going to happen as soon as our best bowlers were fit.

Yeah, i think you would have to put Dwayne Bravo in there instead of Sammy. If that happens then you have yourself a strong side. The strongest WIs side in a long time actually. The captaincy could possibly go to Nash? He looks rather composed at the crease. I guess the other issue would be if the others actually listen to him.

Yup, can't help but cringe when I see sammy's name instead of a more capable player. Ohwell.

Indeed. With Taylor and Edwards slowly coming back into the frame, it really does present a potentially very good bowling line up. The batting is coming along well but Roach can't be left by himself to hold the attack up. If key players like Roach, Junior Bravo, Barath and Gayle stay fit as well with emerging/returning players, I see no reason why the Windies won't move up to 6th at the very least by late next year

Not Terrible
Barath
Gayle
Bravo/Sarwan
Chanderpaul
Nash
Bravo
Baugh
--------
Taylor
Roach
Edwards

is the basis of a pretty good team, now to give the free spot to the specialist captain Sammy or a spinner...

I reckon if the Windies curators improved their wickets with more pace they should play 4 pace bowlers (not Sammy obviously)

Also. If that occured I'd drop Senior Bravo because both Sarwan and junior Bravo need to play. I also imagine Chanderpaul will retire within the next two years, paving the way for Braithwaitte.

So my team would be in the future

Barath
Braithwaitte
D Bravo
Sarwan
Gayle
Nash
Baugh
Russell
Taylor
Edwards
Roach

Perfect mix of youth and experience, and a team that could really challenge others.

You will probably see Chanderpaul retire pretty soon with him being 36 now. So i guess back to Sarwan who is at this time 30 so a few more years out of him. Depending on the conditions number 8 could be an all rounder type role but just for the sake of it i have included a spinner.

1.Barath
2.Gayle
3.Bravo
4.Sarwan
5.Nash (c)
6.Bravo
7.Baugh (wk)
8.Benn
9.Taylor
10.Roach
11.Edwards

That's my ideal team anyway and i agree with other posters in saying that this team could compete with most teams. I would stop short at say a team like SA but they should compete with NZ, Bang, Aus, Sri etc.

Definitely think they should consider playing a 4 man pace attack. Russell would be such an asset, and although he had a rather uninspiring test debut, I believe he hasn't achieving those WI A results based on nothing

Even Murali got reported in SL. So was Jayananda Warnaweera, Harbhajan and Rajesh Chauhan. No big deal
