Reckon Shillingford may ask a few questions of Sanga. He is weaker against spin than against pace. Still feel WI are making the classic mistake that teams touring the subcontinent do by playing two spinners. Think it will play into SL's hands.
At least they're doing it because they're two of their three most accomplished fit bowlers, and not just "because it's the subcontinent".

Hmm.. Benn may be overall a better bowler than Russell at this stage, but subcontinental teams generally treat spinners like **** and a release of pressure. I'd even pick a slightly inferior seamer, seeing that Shillingford has shown the ability to do a decent job as the lone spinner.

Sorry i can't agree!!..Russell has pure pace but was expensive after his first few overs, it was Shilly who done most of the damage with Roach in the first test, Benn has been our best bowler for the past year and a half without question, he got 15 wickets against SA the other day so i'm confident he will do some damage in this test, especially when you look at what that Aussie lefty Xavior Doherty done to their top order recently.

Looking at Samaraweera's technique, in theory he should do well when the ball's doing a bit. I think we are a bit harsh when call him a home track bully. Most of these SL batsmen just don't get enough opportunities to play away from home.

Will back Russell to perform better next time he's picked. Got a little low on confidence unfortunately

Fantastic start by the Windies. Pick up Sangers here and they'll be in such a good position. Roach clearly improving and improving

I think we should bring back Roach for a quick burst before lunch, and maybe partner him with Benn just to mix things up.

It's actually amazing how much weaker SL look as a test side without Murali, I suppose it's easy to forget that he's basically taken half (perhaps more) of their test wickets in the last 15 years & like Hadlee for NZ, he was the difference in them being an a very competitive side from an ordinary one.

What a shot. Sanga has the best-looking cover drive I've ever seen.

Would bring on Benn or Shilly instead of Bravo. Keep Sammy on for a few more than a burst from Roach

They've had Vaas, Jayasuriya and Atapattu all retire recently too, and they haven't really found adequate replacements for them yet. They still have arguably the second best middle order in world cricket.

True. SL bowling attack does look quite ordinary without Murali.

I wasn't intending to demean those players in any way except to point out the impact Murali had to the side. He was after all the singer in the band.
