The key being Lara....consistently Fleming & especially Astle have become alot better with the bat though.

Sure the Windies have been done over, but lets not forget cricket is a team sport & Lara & a few others can't do everything (although at times Lara does the impossible) IMO despite the fact that the West Indies have more individual talent...they don't have the collective talent that NZ have.

Unfortunately, IMO Lara, Sarwan and Chanderpaul add up to more than those three and they still got done over bigtime.
not really.Maybe a bit better batting, cos have you seen fleming lately? his timing is incredibol(sp?) astle, who is one of New Zealands best batsmen ever,is stunning,AND can bowl quite well, and bond,he can bowl out the best and hit the best bowlers out of the stadiums.AND flemings the best captain in world cricket today I.M.O.

So if astle and bond are there, plus flemings batting and captaincy, cairns (back in form)could be deadly to SA.

AND,Astle,Cairns and Fleming are experienced.

A very fair point. WI need bowlers desperately. Batting isn't a problem. This was just a blip.

NZ are better all round but WI must be rated slightly above NZ in batting stakes which is where the problem was today.

But no qualms for me, New Zealand are going to struggle against South Africa but I also feel they are better equiped to fight for it too.

Pardon my stupidity but what does IMO mean?

well we did beat WI in a test series.

1-0.
Not quite the achievement it was years ago is it to be fair. Todays ODI result being the ideal example.

Although we'll see how england do against them

Nonetheless it doesn't make Astle's bowling Test-standard, Bond's batting at all good or Fleming fit to tie Lara's boots :)

The West Indies have always been tough at home regardless of how poor they've been overseas in recent times.

It's a fair call....without Lara the Windies would be hard pressed IMO. NZ have shown without Astle & Bond that they can still win.

Thats what i'm worried about. Lara's already come out in the press and said he expects to get big scores everytime he bats.

Hope the Windies bounce back from today, shame to see once such a great team struggling.

I think Collymore looks a good bowler, not seen much of him before. Dillon started off ok then lost his line anit, Not sure bout drakes? Always seems to be used as a kart horse.

and without cairns, because he was in the team but out of form for most of the time he was in the team.

Mcmillan is the same story is cairns....

Fleming has done a great job keeping the young guys together while the more experienced ones are injured or horribly out of form.

I like the South African team but unless the West Indies are up against India, I find it hard not cheering my lungs out for them. I was disappointed in the end result considering I thought WI had a chance when they were keeping SA's run rate at about 3 RPO.

I went to sleep (living in Australia) at the end of South Africa's innings and I am shocked to see West Indies all out for 54, must of been a poor performance.

In relation to the minor argument regarding the WI and NZ, there's no doubt that NZ are a better team however the West Indies do have a stronger line up. Fleming is great but comparing him to Lara with the bat is a no-brainer.

The West Indies has won without Lara... on occasion.
