I can assure you that once Gayle and Sarwan are fit they will play. Also, I think that the word pedantic is a bit harsh for the situation.
You don't need to assure me, I'm already sure that they'll play. I wouldn't expect their batting alone to guarantee them selection though, if their fielding was consistently poor.

The point is that the team, coaches, management etc. need to look, urgently, at the issue of fielding.

We all know that excellent fielding can turn an ordinary side into a good side and, by the same token, atrocious fielding can turn an ordinary side into a poor one. In my opinion, the current Windies side is ordinary and the fielding is often atrocious.....

Hurley was fit to go to Zimbabwe, but was not picked.

Jerome Taylor is injured.

Omari Banks is injured.

Ravi Rampaul was taken for some exposure.

Fidel Edwards has been good, but clearly fatigued.

Devon Smith is fit, but the selectors turn a blind eye to him. Made his Test debut because Gayle was suspended.

Dave Bernard is clearly substandard.

Carlton Baugh is promising, but was forced into a Test debut because Jacobs was injured.

Dwayne Smith is promising and was an injury replacement.

Dave Mohammed looked decent on debut and is an injury replacement.

Tino Best is raw.

All in all, the changes have centred around injuries to players.

It seems that Kurt Wilkinson is in the ODI squad for WI. You didnt mention him earlier. I think you mentioned Daren Powell, you doesnt seem to be in there. This is courtesy of cricinfo, so theres always a chance it could be wrong...

Also, on the injury side of things, Ganga and Sarwan were both injurred fielding against Easterns but are definately expected to play, while Smith injurred his finger fielding before he made his hundred, and is not expected to play, making the hundred all the more magical.

That leaves only Rampaul and Jacobs who have not been injurred, with Rampaul not playing a test.

This was announced a few days ago and I did the report for it on CW.

Re: Daren Powell, he should be there. Any mention of him was as a bowling resource for future series'.

It doesn't really matter who bowls for the windies anymore, the years of the windies bowling teams out are long gone. They simply rely on lara, sarwan, chanderpaul and hinds to score runs and chase games to win.

Feel sorry for drakes as he bowls his heart out but has little back up. Sarwan and hinds should not be bowling in test matches, I've seen Hinds do well in ODI but surely there are better younger bowlers they could use than sarwan and hinds in test matches?

Eng tour of Windies will be interesting as Steve Harmison bowls short and aggresively as the windies bowlers of the 70s and 80s did. I think he will be the key if eng are gonna succeed in the carribean. Also lara must be stopped obviuosly.

Dillon bowled superbly this morning. As one of the radio commentators said, 'I've never seen Gibbs in so much trouble before... and I've been watching him since he was 9."

Drakes and Collymore also got some decent rhythm and overall I think the WI was very unlucky not to get a couple wickets in the morning session.

Collymore still looks a bit tender and only just starting to build up to decent pace. Edwards looked out of it.

Lara finally wins a toss and puts SA into bat first?
The poor bugger still thinks he has an attack that can take wickets lol
Putting SA into bat was always going to results in an utter pummeling.

Sigh.
