A full-strength Barbados is rivalled only by Jamaica. Currently it will still be a strong team though, with Wallace, Reifer, Collins, Bradshaw, Browne all likely to play. A young batsman named Dale Richards may play too. He's quite talented.

I think this bloke needs to time his runup better...
If my memory serves me correctly he is a SA A team guy, and not the furthest from the national callup...

That's just not right! Surely the respectable thing would be to skip the Test altogether. Us West Indians won't mind a bit. ;)

What happened to Vasbert Drakes? He hasn't bowled at all in the tour match vs. Easterns. Lara was on the field as sub before, now Gus Logie is fielding :(

Gus Logie is a good fielder. It would make sense for him to be, because you really don't want to risk another major injury.

Not sure what happened to Drakes, but Hinds is out of the tour with a groin strain. :(

Some 14 players have sustained injuries since the West Indies arrived in Africa, although only 4 have returned home.

Jacobs, Ganga, Rampaul and Sanford are the names which come to mind as being fit throughout their time in Africa.

Carlton Baugh I would imagine play. It wouldnt be a bad idea to give Jacobs a break while keeping either in South Africa's 1st innings or second innings.

Have one keep for each innings. I'm sure Jacobs wouldnt mind the opportunity to run around a bit but I guess he would field in the mid off/mid on region.

I wouldnt think he would feild in the slips.

BTW when did Sarwan get injured?

I notice that Vasbert Drakes was used as the 9th bowler in that Tour game.

Surely the best 7th change man ever?

I don't see why Jacobs would need a rest. I don't consider him less fit than an Alec Stewart and he wasn't exactly struggling at the end of his career.

I wouldn't play Baugh unless I have to and, we don't have to. Due to Smith's form, we can play him and keep Ganga with Chanders returning for Hinds.

I missed out Sarwan from that list, he hasn't been injured yet.

Sounds like Windies have been pretty shoddy in the field again in this game - see the report on Windiescricket.com.

This ongoing problem needs to be remedied urgently. If Logie can't sort it, he should go. If players are incapable of applying themselves and concentrating properly when fielding, they should go. The last test was beyond embarrassing in this respect.

Even if they're performing with the bat and/or ball? So if Lara drops 4 catches in the next game he should be dropped?

The epidemic is not limited to the senior side, but throughout the Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago dropped 4 yesterday.

I think using Lara - perhaps one of only 2 "untouchables" in the squad - as an example is a bit pedantic, even if I did exaggerate.

The general principle I'm getting at, is that fielding should be regarded as a crucial element of the game in its own right and not - as many of the current squad seem to think - an opportunity to preen, pose and switch off.

The West Indies just don't seem to take fielding seriously. The report on the game against Easterns talks about Sarwan - the captain - laughing after failing to take a catch. After the fielding debacle in the 3rd test, you would expect a professional sports team to be chomping at the bit when given an opportunity to put things right. Clearly, that isn't the case with this team.

I can assure you that once Gayle and Sarwan are fit they will play. Also, I think that the word pedantic is a bit harsh for the situation.

It seems like every series the West Indies are pulling out new players from obscurity....I know there have been injury problems on the South African tour but it won't keep the team very settled.

How many players have the West Indies debuted over the last year in both forms of the game? anyone know?
