With Gayle out, the batting looks severely weakened. The South Africans do have a very high regard for Jacobs though.

So edwards today. He reminded me of Shoaib Ahktar with his action.
I think that there's more than a little of Jeff Thomson in his action - hand tucked way behimd the back, 'catapult' action - he'll be better if he can get the arm a bit higher, though.

Yeah this my first time at looking at Edwards and I have Lawson but I'm yet to see Taylor.

I think Edwards and Lawson have a lot of potential and from what I have been told he bowled pretty well (Talyor) in the series against Sri Lanka.

Edwards can bowl up to 154km/h or 96 mph Lawson can get it up in the 80's even into the early 90's perhaps and Talyor can apprantly get get it up there as well. Mr M will no doubt read this and correct me (if it's needed) or tell me how fast Talyor can really bowl up to.

If they can keep these three bowlers fit and no serious back injuries then there is no reason why Lara cant have 3 bowlers bowling around 90mph. But I think I'm correct in saying that they all have potential.

Drakes offers Lara experience from his years in South Africa, Colleymore bowled well against Sri Lanka but his Test career is really just new.

And of course Dillon is the most Test experienced bowler in the WI team.

And last but not least I think Ganga is handy tight spinner.

In my estimation, Taylor is quicker than Edwards.

A few things to note...

1/ The West Indian bowlers did superbly today. The bowling was sharp and purposeful on an unresponsive pitch.

2/ Jacques Kallis - WOW.

3/ Makhaya Ntini reclaims his number 10 spot... surely.

4/ Drakes fielded very well.

5/ Makhaya Ntini looks very dangerous, but he's not consistent enough.

6/ Shaun Pollock is class as usual.

7/ Andre Nel looks a very impressive talent.

8/ Simon Taufel has umpired superbly in this Test of what I've seen.

9/ Wavell Hinds got himself out to a horrible shot.

10/ Ganga looking to exorcise his South Africa demons. He's struggled at times, but has played a couple of glorious off-drives.

11/ Note that Sarwan is in some very poor form.

12/ Gayle has a torn hamstring, but if he does bat, he won't be able to until 5 wickets down.

Woah! Andre Nel! What a sketcher! That guy is pumped, trying to be an Allan Donald with all the glaring and verbals.. Ive never seen him bowl so quick, if he can turn it up that much he should do well in the future for SA :D

Another good day at the office for them, but at least they had some good opposition today.. Ganga is batting very nicely indeed, we need to snare Sarwan early on tomorow, and get BCL in against fresh bowling...

He looks a bit of a nutter - if he gave me THAT sort of glare, I'd blow him a kiss. I reckon he'd freak out.

SA scored 193 runs for the loss of 7 wickets today.
WI scored 87/1. I'd say WI had a better day at the office.

Ganga batted through some early nerves to play a superb innings to date. Some lovely shots. Sarwan too looked in very good form.

I'd bet that Craig McMillan would do that

96-2

Sarwan already gone but it was a prefect delievery.

Ganga has got his 50 but they were lucky not to have a run out before Sarwan got out.

One thing that annoys me about Kallis is that takes too slow to score his runs. He doesnt roate the strike enough.

It's a 5 day game though.

People often moan about players being slow scorers, even when it's a S/R of over 50 per 100 balls!

I know. But there were times when he could have roated the strike easily enough but he didnt.

I must say Ntini and Kallis are going through their best spells I have seen them bowl in Test cricket.

Lara can consider himself lucky to still be there. Pollock dropped a sitter off Ntini at 1st slip when he was on 13.

Where is bucket hands McMillan (Brian) when you need him?

Woohoo. The West Indies mentality continues. Ganga out to a hook shot... with his team 420 runs behind on first innings... on day 3. Genius.

Yeah and he had thrown away a well deserved 100.

He is an excellent umpire. A few bad decisions (in particular giving Ganga out LBW off an inside edge of Brett Lee at Adelaide 2001), but he is human!
