**Official** West Indies in South Africa Thread

What is wrong with the West Indian bowling.

OK, I'm only following this on Cricinfo, but it seems they're bowling a) too short and b) on the pads at Graeme Smith. Obviously they haven't watched any of SA in England.

The guy has a weakness driving full balls angled across him outside off stump. So you bowl across him, with slips, gullies and short extra.

Not like this! Sort it out!

Someone in the WI team must be reading CW:

57.2 Edwards to Smith, no run, pitched well outside off stump, Smith leans forward but decides against fishing for delivery that was leaving him

57.3 Edwards to Smith, OUT: edged to the slip, captain caught by captain

South Africa 240/3, Partnership of 80
GC Smith c Lara b Edwards 132 (184b 22x4 0x6)
JH Kallis 31* (52b 3x4 1x6) FH Edwards 14.3-0-58-1 (2w)

Though Smith wasn't driving when he was out. Rather he was flashing with a horizontal bat off the front foot at a wide ball and no footwork.

Lara has taken two superb catches so far. As the commentators have been saying, Lara has tried to be attacking and has been very reluctant to go very defensive, but the bowlers (bar Dillon) haven't consistently put it in the right place.

Still, Edwards has continued to run in and bowl with heart and has produced a couple of very good yorkers, just dug out. Collymore also bowled a couple of great overs after Gibbs was dismissed.

Right now we're missing Banks dearly... even Gayle... any spinner.

The point was more aimed at his front foot off side play. It ought to be driving, but often isn't.

At this point in time, it appears as though Chris Gayle's injury could be as bad as to keep him out of the tour. :(

These aren't the circumstances I wanted Devon Smith to get called up due...

Unlucky West Indies. It appears you've caught the injury cord from Australia and England.

Keep your whites ready, Liam, you never know...

Unfortunately I'm recovering from a sprained ankle. :P

I expect that the West Indies would struggle more than Australia and England with the injury bug, because we have a smaller pool of players in general and a smaller pool of experienced players.

Shall we play "Guess the call up"?

Mali Richards?
Aneil Kanhai?
Brenton Parchment?
Floyd Reifer?
Dwayne Bravo?
Stuart Williams?

A few random names for the WI selectors to think about :)

I'm thinking...

Rawl Lewis
Nicholas de Groot
Anil Balliram

or some other sub-standard product.

It was interesting to see that the ball which dismissed Herschelle Gibbs was a HUGE no-ball.

(shouts) RICHARD!!!

Looks like South Africa are returning to some of their best form.
Hmmm, wouldn't judge yet given a) the pitch and b) the bowling

The match seems to have "draw" written all over it.

Well I think the west indies chances can be summed up by Daren Gangas ball that pitched halfway down and was belted over mid wicket for six by Kallis... There bowling bar Edwards seemed to be very military medium, they need more if they are going to get anything out of this pitch, and that will be a concern for South Africa too, particularly if Mr Lara gets going...

Oh and if its any consolation, this is by far the flattest wanderers wicket ive seen...
