Tino Best has a good FC record, but an economy rate of 3.73 proves that he is erratic (though economy rate doesn't matter in FC)

Chanderpaul brings up his 200. Third 200+ of his career I believe (including 303*).

WI 486/4 (128 overs) v Free State
S Chanderpaul 202 not out (277 balls, 28x4)
RD Jacobs 115 not out (216 balls, 13x4)

Partnership = 289.

Yes, yes, WI have finally worked out how to beat inferior opposition:P (points out that they lost 2 matches against Zim!)

Any England fans remember Gerrie Liebenberg? Affectionatly known as the walking wicket, he is actually a very good batsman, and the only hope for Free State, who have a very weak team out :(

Quick update of the stumps score:

Free State 3/2
M Dillon 2-0-3-1
R Rampaul 1-1-0-1

West Indians 618 all out
S Chanderpaul 245 (369) 31x4
RD Jacobs 149 (286) 15x4
WW Hinds 38 (44) 4x6

4 FS bowlers scored centuries. :P

Chanderpaul and Jacobs added 359 runs for the 5th wicket - the new highest 5th wicket stand in FC cricket in South Africa.

Well done Chanders and Jacobs.

Mr M what is Darren Powell's action like and does he swing it, good seam postion, is he quick?

From what I remember, Powell has a fairly straight-on action - squared up. He's quite accurate and he has pace (90+mph) but I don't think he swings it much.

Free State 114/7
R Rampaul 5/28

Oh dear :(... looks like Mr. Rampaul will be playing the first Test.

Samuels out

Marlon Samuels will miss the SA series with a knee inury. It seems the injury bug has caught on with WI now.

Collymore and Edwards were carrying injuries in the Test matches. Taylor only bowled 9.4 overs due to injury. Drakes was injured, though he has recovered. Brian Lara had to go to the dentist the other day :P. Now Samuels returns home. I would think that Devon Smith would have to be the one to replace him... or Floyd Reifer.

Not good. :(

:D

Surprising that you mentioned Reifer. I think he played a series against SRL a long time back. What's his age now?

Reifer is 31 and IMO one of the better OD players in the region. A more than capable FC player too.

Dwayne Smith!!!!

The Caribbeancricket message board is suggesting (with tongue only just in cheek) that there's been a D. Smith mix-up and Devon's the one they intended to pick.

The only noteworthy innings I know of for Dwayne was a brutal 90-odd in this year's Red Stripe. Do you think he's been called up largely for the 1-dayers?

Dwayne Smith????

That's it next they will be picking some 15 year old from Kingston who is a decent enough middle order batsman but hasnt really made it in the trails at age level..

And I believe Riefer played a few ODis when Sarwan made his FC debut (Sarwan first played for Guyana at 15).

None of the Free State players are household names in their own homes so I wouldn't read too much into this showing.

On the other hand, encouraging performances from Carlton, Shiv and Ravi, though presumably only 1 of them will be playing on Friday.

My team, if anyone's interested (or indeed, if no-one's interested) is:

Gayle
Hinds
Sarwan
Lara
Chanderpaul
Ganga
Jacobs
Drakes
Dillon
Edwards
Collymore

Not exactly spoilt for choice and Judging by South Africa's squad there won't be much in it for the spinners. Banks appears to be a fitness doubt anyway and Mohammed must be short of match practice.

An article on Caribbeancricket.com suggests that Daren Powell is the "obvious choice" to replace Banks. Why is a fast bowler the obvious choice to replace an off-spinning all-rounder!? I realise that Windies have already brought in a spinner to replace a quick (Mohammed for Taylor) but I think it was generally recognised that we had 1 to many quicks anyway.

I would prefer to see an "all-rounder" even if it isn't an off-spinning all-rounder. We would then retain the option of playing just 5 specialist bats. The only players who springs to mind are Breese and Bravo, but perhaps they're not good enough for this level. Have you seen either of them play Mr M? I saw Bravo at Headingley during the "A" tour. He seemed to have a very smooth bowling action, but I don't think he batted.
