***Official*** West Indies in New Zealand

It is unbelievable how The Windies aren't 2 or 3 wickets down. NZ have done everything but take a wicket, with a bit of assistance from the umpires mind you!

But The West Indies need this kind of luck if they are going to do well.

thank god, they finally got a wicket. It would have almost been laughable if they hadn't have been able to pick up at least one before play ended.

Blakey

International 12th Man
Finally another wicket.

Black Caps have been damnnnnn unlucky with the bowling.

I'm sick of seeing Franklin walking back to his mark ala "world rests on my shoulders, woe is me" fashion.

275 plays 51/3 after Day One. NZ will be relatively pleased considering they lost the toss.

Rain is forcast for tommorow morning, so West Indies will have to negotiate some overcast conditions tommorow perhaps.

Scott Styris is my favourite player and this day has further cemented that in my mind. I think people saying he was out of form are laughable because that was certainly not the case and I never believed it was however Marshall's form is terrible kick him out! Vincent would make more of an impact than him, someone thats actually in form and deserves to be in the squad. A bit unfortunate about the lousy umpire call when it clearly hit the gloves.

Good old Scott - I always knew you had it in you.

When all around were losing faith, I stuck by my guns and maintained that, despite the evidence and a tendency to flatter to deceive, you really were an all-rounder once.

Glad you are again (looks around for a new Kiwi victim ;)).

When I saw Styris on the pitch this morning, I didn't think much of it, but man, he had a whale of a day... Kinda fitting that it was him who was out there before play.

I think the key is Eddie, those who you take pot shots at eventually do well. Your next NZ victim may get some runs/wickets as well. :p

Loony BoB

International Captain
Styris also averages 115 at #3. One could argue that he's only had three innings there - but those innings were against India, England and South Africa and two of them were centuries and the last one was a not-out innings, so he's never been out for less than 100 in such a position... and people are wondering who to put in at #3?!

How
Vincent
Styris
Fleming
Astle
Fulton
McCullum
Vettori
Franklin
Bond
Martin

Works for me! Vincent and Fleming interchangeable depending on whether you want to improve your chances of winning a game or if you want to let your captain choose his position.

Umm.. Scott Styris was out of form. I think he'd tell you the same. He only came into form after 20-30 runs in that very innings.

I think the umpiring was outstanding in the early stages. There were some calls that were very close, but ultimately proved to be not out. Remember, if there's any doubt...

I'm sure it's been noted already (too lazy to check back for it) but the West Indies selection policy for this game is very very poor. It almost serves them right now that Taylor is down injured. It's extremely defensive to enter a Test match with 3 specialist bowlers and a Dwayne Smith. Smith had some success, but not with wicket-taking balls. He's neither Test class as a batsman nor a bowler, so why pick him?

*waits for Smith hundred*

Further to that, Jerome Taylor is so far from Test readiness, it's laughable. He bowled well before his hamstring acted up yesterday, but he's still lacking form and proper match fitness. Yes, he's played some FC games and a few ODI games since returning from injury, but the injury kept him out for a year and he is yet to look like the bowler he was before it.

Ponting's about to start captaining well for Australia, in that case.

See? Doesn't ALWAYS hold water.
