And gee NZ are in a good position considering as soon as Bond drops out our bowling attack looks pretty ordinary, AND that they won the toss and chose to bat!
Err. Dont count yer chickens before its hatched.... NZ are in good position but the WI bowling attack is a bit underrated. I think NZ's biggest concern would be its top order batting unless it gets WI for a sub 200 score.

I really hope NZ's batting is better than what we've seen (or read on cricinfo for those of us not lucky enough to be near a tv) so far from the West Indies. From what I heard this morning the pitch is a pretty decent batting track right?
If you win the toss and bat, you have got to be an idiot unless it is a decent batting track or will just get worse.

Anybody notice the subtle dig at Chanderpaul?

Don't know about that - there's a lot of respect for Edwards, and Bradshaw certainly advanced his cause up in Auckland. I thought Gayle bowled well too, he got turn where Vettori didn't.

Yes. Funny how on the news the other night it said - Chris Gayle - West Indian all rounder. He certainly has come along from his non spinners!

Well I think Fidel Edwards is the WI mohammed Sami - brimming with potential who can go from utter destructive spell to utter club level spell in a space of few overs.
Braddie is a decent bowler IMO but what i mean is their bowling is stronger than it looks on paper while their batting is a bit weaker than it looks on paper......

I think the Kiwis first and foremost priority should be putting a 50 opening partnership and not wasting Hamish Marshall in the opening spot.

Absolutely! I think John Bracewell is the only guy in the country who thinks that is a good idea.

You're right about Edwards too - brimming with potential, but the fact is he hasn't taken a truckload of wickets despite looking likely. Sounds very similar to discussions I've had about Vettori actually...

Sometimes I think the copywriters on the news know very little about the subject they're reporting. Although I'd agree Gayle's an all-rounder, sometimes the media have funny ideas about who qualifies.

Both have certainly surprised me this tour. Thought we would spank their bowling everywhere. And thought there batting would pile up runs against us.

It's not even raining where I am and I only live a 20 minute drive from the Basin! It does look like it could start pouring at any minute though. Not sure they'll get any more play today. (Although just to prove me wrong the sun will probably now come out)

Go the sun! I remeber going to Eng vs NZ ODI st Eden Park in 2002. It was rain interrupted, and we on the Terraces could see the sun coming, coming, coming up from behind the clouds. And when it went did, we all went nuts!

To be fair, you could drive 20 minutes from the Basin and be in Karori, or Petone, where the weather could quite conceivably be completely different!
