I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Because it was recorded, people will make a big deal about it. Nothing new really. A bit funny, imo :D

Edit: Just said what Ed & Blaze said. Oops.

Richardson from embarrassment?

Fleming is the one completely in the wrong here, and Richardson now deserves a public apology IMO.

Why? It wasn't broadcast on public TV was it? If it wasn't recorded only Richardson, Fleming and the camera man would know about it and they'd get over it.

Yeah I just meant that Richardson will be feeling pretty upset about it, he doesn't need it to be played over and over again on the news and radio.

Explain to us how you know that Fleming's "completely in the wrong"? You don't know what Richardson said. It's more than possible there's a background to this story that we don't know about.

Judging by what Fleming said, I think Richardson said something in the changing rooms that was probably wrong (which wasn't recorded?) and that was Fleming's response...

Precisely. Two sides to every story. Mind you, I don't have a problem with Rigor's commentary. Danny Morrison on the other hand comes across as nothing more than a buffoon.

C'mon James, with all due respect, its not like he slept with his wife or something. I mean Flemings an upfront guy and in my opinion he was just speaking his mind. He didn't think the cameras were still rolling. Having said that, no doubt Vetch, Telfer and Watergrave will eat it up tomorrow on radiosport

For the record, how was it leaked ???

Really, that interview was quite sickening. It looked like something out of WWE RAW with the reaction of Richardson at the end.

Haha you're so right Tim. All we needed was commentators talking about how you could cut the tension with a knife. Bah gawd! :p

Why should person x's opinion in the commentary box matter to the players so much? Even if he is critical of scoring rates or is speaking crap, I don't understand why players take it so personally.

The issue isn't Fleming and Richardson were team mates.

Ganguly got Sidhu removed from ESPN-Star after Sidhu blasted India after a loss vs Australia and Sidhu was highly critical.

I just think it's sad that all of this came out before the last day of the test, with so much to play for. This could be hard for the NZ players to have to keep out of mind so as to concentrate.

I don't think there's any reason to slate Fleming unless you know what was said in the interview itself. Fleming's only human - if you had a good mate join up to a franchise sports commentary team and then degrade you in an nationally (possibly internationally) aired interview, would you react similarly? I would.

I also don't think that Fleming would have reacted that way if he didn't see Mark as a friend, so I'm confident he'll apologise - but judging by Fleming's reaction to the interview I'd say that Mark might need to do a bit of apologising too.

MORE IMPORANTLY - 45 runs vs 2 wickets! What an end to a test we're in for...

Really, this isn't going to reflect very well on Fleming. It shows a pretty harsh side to him. I mean it wasn't long ago he released a book and was critical of certain players..I remember one of the book launches. He went to town on Lou Vincent and his personality.

He's perhaps not totally the nice guy he is made out to be.

I guess that this situation shows that if you want to be a commentator once you have finished playing that you should do either one of two things
* wait a few years between playing and commentating
or
*distance yourself from players that you used to play with
or (there is a third option which makes for rather pathetic commentating)
*don't bag your former team-mates or talk about their weak spots.

Yeah it pretty much shows why players who retire and go straight into the comm box tread so carefully when they commentate on players.
I really don't think players who have retired should go straight into the commentary box. they should wait at least a year or two.

I really think a lot of you guys are making too much of this. Can't a guy speak his mind to an old mate without being expected to make a national apology???
