Windies need 11 an over...

Good luck.

They shouldn't get too close here, but I hope they make a game of it. Morton up to 70*.

This game reminds me of the game in Napier last year where Ponting belted Aussie to over 300 and we just batted it out to 225/8.

A lot of ODI games featuring Bangladesh follow this pattern

I say the WI should just throw caution to the wind here and see if they can pull off something.

Oh and try to hit the balls away from the fielders. Doesn't matter if you hit hard or soft if it goes straight to the fielder and he stops or limits runs.

With just the one game left, I still have no idea about how the panel are going to whittle down a test XII.

Seeing an overall consensus of CW opinions might help me out I think. 2 pts for each name correct, 1 additional pt for getting their position in the batting order right. :)

Poster with the lowest score has to wear an avatar chosen by the winner perhaps....

How
Fulton
H Marshall
Fleming
Astle
Vincent
McCullum
Vettori
Franklin
Mills
Bond
C Martin (might be better to have Papps (yes, Edwards v. Papps would be must-watch TV....) or Styris' name listed here, just in case I got the top 6 woefully wrong. Also wondering about Bracewell's liking for having a second spin option on hand, perhaps making Patel a 12th man candidate, despite his poor FC record.)

Two debutants opening? And Marshall, who isn't exactly in the runs lately, at 3? I don't see it happening, although I've been wrong before... I'd say it's more likely Vincent will open and Styris will play, not that I agree with that.

Does Fulton open at FC level?
I remember reading in an article that Fulton was picked to specifically play as an opener for the Major Associations XI v. Sri Lanka late last season "at the request of the national selection panel".

Obviously that panel has since been overhauled, and as Macka suggested, two debutant openers might be pushing it.

Fulton typically bats at # 3 for Canterbury, but given that Papps recently went through an 18-month period of averaging around 14 in FC play, Fulton has had quite a bit of exposure to the new ball.

It's clear to me that Vincent doesn't want to open again. If he's picked to play there I'm pretty sure he'll try to turn it into a Sehwag/Gayle type of role; he's already gone on record saying he's never going to try and put a leash back on his strokeplay. When asked by J. Millmow in the Dom Post about the prospect of opening in tests, his reply was something like "that's all 4 months away, but I'm definitely batting at number 4 for Auckland this season".

A couple of incredible stats came out of todays game..........

Firstly Fleming labouring on 10 off 26 balls, then reaching his 50 off just 36 balls (his next 40 coming off 10 balls!! )

and then Edwards, and his 10 over spell going for just 23 runs while the other windies bowlers went for 301 runs of the other 40 overs !!!!

Nice to see actually New Zealand finish off a good start with the bat , shame from their point of view they couldn't finish it off in the last over and overtake Australia's highest score (338) against the windies, but full credit to Edwards for a great last over.

Taylor showed me enough in the short time and the crease to suggest he has the goods, but i don't think Styris can be blamed for his runout. If Taylor had been alert and gone immediately, I think he would have got there. He'll learn from the experience.

I'd be very suprised now if it ain't 5-0 to the blackcaps

Craig Cumming will almost certainly be given the boot from the test side. Jamie How pretty much went & did again what the selectors would have asked him to do. And that would have been to make a substantial score in this week's 4 day match.

If he does what they want him to do, then they won't have much choice but to keep their word & pick him.

Gosh, the West Indies have lost 19 of their past 21 ODIs according to the Dom Post newspaper!

I hope they see that it is time to get rid of Marshall, but I doubt they will. I think it would be poor to pick Marshall ahead of Vincent or Fulton.

With How seemingly in as one opener... who do you all think will be the other?

Will they pick Vincent to open as otherwise somebody (either Astle, Vincent, Styris, Fulton) will miss out?

This will certainly be one of the more interesting team selections in some time...

The West Indies look terrible right now. It will take a lot of convincing for me to accept that they have a chance at the World Cup, even this far out. Throw in the added pressure of playing at home and I don't think the current squad will be able to do it.
However to save my blushes incase they do pull it off, i'll never say never.
