For the type of bowler that he is you don't expect economy though. Or you shouldn't at least. He's a charge in and deliver type of bowler with a slingy action. Brett Lee has a more orthodox action, and therefore you'd expect to bowl with control more often than Edwards.sirjeremy11 said:No doubting the guys talent, but he has been a bit Brett Lee-ish in his economy rate.
Don't know, that last over was fairly well directed and controlled. I'm telling you, he looked very good today. Very accurate.Mr Mxyzptlk said:For the type of bowler that he is you don't expect economy though. Or you shouldn't at least. He's a charge in and deliver type of bowler with a slingy action. He must've been, because the New Zealand batsmen didn't appear to be in a charitable mood. That's why I'm so surprised and suddenly very excited for the Test matches. Accuracy is the thing that has hindered Edwards in Tests and he's been bowling well (bar his last over in the 3rd match) ever since that final spell in the first match.sirjeremy11 said:Don't know, that last over was fairly well directed and controlled. It can get worse. I try to imagine what they would have been like had we collared Edwards today as well. They would have had nothing to cheer about.James said:and what about the WIndies fielding guys, can it get much worse! New Zealand must have got an extra 20-30 runs in mid-fields and general rubbish fielding. On the positive, at least they can catch!

Yeah... maybe. Still went for 5's... got three wickets in the rest of the torment though.Mr Mxyzptlk said:*cough* Gayle *cough*
I pick 3-0. But hopefully, there will be some more fight with Lara there.James said:2-0 is my pick.
He was under 4.5 for a large part though (I think).sirjeremy11 said:Yeah... maybe. Still went for 5's... got three wickets in the rest of the torment though.
They really need someone to back these two up. Surprised at the way they got to Butler and Bradshaw.
Given the chance to attack and rip a few, I can see Lewis taking a wicket or two.James said:I don't see how the WIndies are going to take 20 wickets against us in the tests to be perfectly honest. The only bowler who's impressed me in this tour has been Edwards, while the other seamers have been woeful, and with Bravo carrying an injury, he's unlikely to be at his best.
The only way the WIndies are going to beat us IMO is to bat first and score 600+ on the back of a Lara double ton and then rely on some silly shots from the Kiwi batsmen.
2-0 is my pick.
Got to say, just when I saw the end of the game the other night, and the Windies were shaking hands with NZ as they came off the field, I felt sorta sorry for them. That was the first time I had such a feeling when watching us beat someone.Mr Mxyzptlk said:He was under 4.5 for a large part though (I think).
Butler and Bradshaw have built career on being economical, so it was rather shocking. It's bound to happen occasionally though. Just a pity it happened for both on the same day.
In the whole series?Mr Mxyzptlk said:Given the chance to attack and rip a few, I can see Lewis taking a wicket or two.
Agreed. They could use him. Still have a good line up though with Lara, Gayle, Chanderpaul, Sarwan, Bravo, Ramdin, Ganga. Maybe could have swapped him for Morton.Mr Mxyzptlk said:Wavell Hinds may be sorely missed in the Tests as far as batting is concerned.
