No problem. I thought it looked naff at first. But you get a very good basic highlights package that you can put together yourself. And no adverts!

Just seeing the highlights and i just noted how odd rawl lewis' stance is for a legspinner, then i remembered reading about how Nagamootoo is noted for a chest-on stance.

Is this like the normal way for West Indians leggies to be taught?

West Indian leggies aren't taught. They just happen.

You think that could happen. Surely. I think the main change that they could make (obviously), is Vincent in for Marshall. I would then put Vincent at three and shuffle everybody down one...

Astle
How
Vincent
Fleming
Styris
Fulton
McCullum
Vettori
Franklin
Bond
Mason
Fulton's proven himself for Canterbury and NZA as a very cool head and an ideal player for righting a ship, but I think you've got to select with the confidence that our # 6 will generally come in at 200+/4, not 80/4. Especially now that our top order is looking as competitive as it has in years.

Although I never bought into the tag that Fulton was a test prospect only, he's never struck me as a '40 off 20' merchant. I quite like Jonathan Millmow's idea in the Dominion this morning of starting Taylor's career at 6, replacing some of the instant hitting power that Cairns (and I suppose Oram and even McMillan) provided to our recent lower-middle orders.

As for Jamie How, a bright side that people probably shouldn't overlook is that they're at least giving him a taste of the Windies attack ahead of the test matches (for which he's a shoo-in), but yes, I would also have Vincent in there now if it was ODIs I cared most about.

How loves driving straight and defending with a full face. It should prove ideal for his test career (his on-drives are beautiful hallmarks of a test batsman in the making), but perhaps not so much in ODIs where you'd prefer he worked singles wide of mid-on and mid-off.

Looking ahead to after March 2007, where Nathan Astle & Stephen Fleming will almost certainly retire, I think our ODI lineup will look something like this:

Jamie How
Jesse Ryder
Lou Vincent
Peter Fulton
Scott Styris
Ross Taylor
Jacob Oram
Brendon McCullum +
Daniel Vettori *
Kyle Mills
Shane Bond (may retire, depending on fitness)

Jeetan Patel, Andre Adams, Hamish Marshall (will only make reserves if he continues to struggle), Ian Butler, James Franklin, Michael Papps. Younger players like Rob Nicol, Daniel Flynn, Richard Sherlock may start to emerge too.

If NZ got that lineup on the park, it would probably be one of the most talented NZ sides ever if you ask me. There is more natural talent there then there has been for some time.

From tests too. Both of them have families now. And both of them have said they doubt they'll go on much further past the World Cup.

I enjoyed Hows innings probably even more so than Astles. Some of the shots for four were great. It will be a very interesting squad after the world cup and look forward to Taylor playing unless his form totally stops and he becomes a dud but im geussing that ain't goin to happen. :)

I still think this series is going to be a whitewash and if it isn't and West Indies win an ODI I will have an avatar of Rawl Lewis and have my sig Rawl Lewis - My heroe.

Then again that might be quite allright if Lewis has a good series :)

If Marshall fails again, then after the 2nd ODI he could make way for Taylor.

Obviously, I don't want to see Marshall fail but if NZ win the 2nd ODI and Marshall doesn't contribute then I get the feeling Ross Taylor will get the call.

If Marshall was played in a constant position then I don’t think he would fail, he still in my eyes looks the part but in the first ODI he came in after James Franklin which is frankly absurd.

I think they were looking to see whether Franklin could come in and play some big hits. Although I don't think people rate Marshall enough as a hitter because he can find the boundary easily when he's got his eye in.

Ross Taylor has so much more talent than either of the Marshall's though. He is also in great form (look at the state shield final) so now is an ideal opportunity to bring him in for a couple of games.

That front foot pull shot he played off Shane Bond was just freakish.

Have to say, despite tha fact I am an ND supporter, the Marshall's seem to be more grafting, fighting type players. They certainly can dop and run too (though we have not seen James do that much at international level).

But Taylor just looks so good. And he can bowl a bit. And he can hit it. Hard. From the start.

Terrible news...

Bravo likely to miss remainder of one-day series

Tony Cozier

February 20, 2006

West Indies' heavy loss to New Zealand in the first ODI was compounded by the realisation that Dwayne Bravo is likely to miss the remaining matches as well.

Bravo, whose aggressive batting, medium-pace variations, electric fielding and general ebullience are essential elements in the team, strained muscles in his left side while bowling in the Twenty20 international at Auckland on Tuesday. He had to leave the field after the fourth ball of his third over and has been receiving treatment from physiotherapist Stephen Partridge since.

He was missing from the opening ODI here, his general condition aggravated by the same influenza bug that kept Ramnaresh Sarwan out of the Twenty20 international. A cryptic release from the team's media manager, Imran Khan, stated only that Bravo "is receiving treatment and being monitored by physiotherapist Stephen Partridge and will continue to be monitored in the lead up to the following ODI games".

Although Khan did not reveal the extent of the injury, side strains invariably take three weeks to a month to mend, especially for allrounders as active as Bravo. The last of the five ODIs is at Eden Park in Auckland March 4 with the first Test starting at the same venue five days later. The likeliest scenario is that Bravo be given every chance to recover in time for the three Tests.

This is an important tour for the 22-year-old Trinidadian who has made such an impact since coming into the team two years ago. He missed the learning experience that would have been provided on the tour of Sri Lanka last July and August when he joined other players in following the advice of the West Indies Players Association advice not to sign the offered tour contract.

He was outstanding when he, and the others, returned for the series in Australia last October and November, scoring his second Test hundred in Hobart, claiming his second six-wickets haul in an innings at Adelaide and lifting the level of the fielding. To miss all the ODIs here would clearly be disappointing but it would be foolhardy to press him into service too early with the attendant risk of aggravating the injury.

Better, for his own sake and the team's that he is ready for the three Tests to follow.

How stink is that? Really was looking forward to seeing Bravo in the ODI's!

I'd expect the Windies to play the same side. Except maybe Rawl Lewis coming in for one of Taylor or Edwards. My money would be on Taylor.

I just wanted to say (as irrelevant as it is) that Astle has scored more ODI tons against India then anyone else.
