yeah - i saw cairnsy do that (the bowl-off action) .. had no idea what it entailed.

anyway, i thought it was really badly done, they shouldn;t of gone off the field and been able to practice (bowling at 1 stump in the outfield). also, only having 1 stump at the bowlers end for the actual bowl-off, not very proper (but to be fair this was cos they stumps had been removed straight after the draw because the groundsman didn't know what was happening?)

the umpires should signal a bowl-off DIRECTLY after the tied match and get the captains 5 bowlers up, and STRAIGHT AWAY start the bowl-off, no practicing at all (i had to laugh, scotty styris had a practice bowl out in the middle! haha).

but yeah....tied game - STRAIGHT into the bowl-off, this would put good pressure on the players - and seem more regulation and professional. you don't see football players going off the field - then coming back on to have a few practice shots at their keeper etc etc, they just go straight into it, much better. it's a good idea the make twenty20 matches always have a winning result, just the way they went about it was a farce.

[edit: HOW HARD IS IT TO HIT THE WICKETS!?!?!?! international professional bowlers that can't hit a full set of wickets.....pretty apalling]

sorry for the massive rant, cheers for reading this if you did :)

p.s. - go the streakers, 2 chicks too, nice - and the one from the terraces end who got picked up and her b00b-tube came all the way off exposing full **** to the asb stand - NICE! hahaha

What a rubbish game. I thought that NZ batted very poorly (bar Vincent), and were a little caught up in the moment. Fleming himself said...

"But our batting was pretty dumb, we just got caught up in trying to get the game won and play the big shots and please the crowd, and no one really did any hard work.

"Hopefully we get it out of the way now but I'm not overly happy."

That sums it up. I also think the whole camp sunk a bit once Cairns got out.

Have to say, I was a wee bit impressed by the Windies bowlers. I hope Bravo is not too badly injured. Yes, they looked a bit rusty in the batting, but if they can get that sorted out, it could be a good series.

Saying that, look at our batting

Classy... Haven't seen the word "****" in a CricketWeb forum before...

Streakers make me mad! Sorry to those that like it, but if I wanted to see neaked people running round, I would go to some sort of nudist race or to a strip club. If I want to watch cricket, I will go to cricket. End of story.

The standard line of attack isn't usually aiming for the stumps...

Yeah, I was thinking about that while it was happening. A few of those balls (while not hitting the stumps), were quite good line and length balls. If Bond bowled like that in a real game, he would get spanked.

That shouldn't matter. It should be pretty simple for them to adjust their line. It wasn't as if every ball was just outside off stump any way, both teams were all over the show. It was a farce.

I would back myself to hit the stumps 4/6 times.

Two reasons why I think the bowlers struggled.

1) Pressure

2) The fact that they wern't bowling to a batsman down the other end.

Maybe the bowlers last night would as well. Just so happened that the 2/6 that they would miss happened before our very eyes...

I'm sorry you have to do the Giles thing. We all know you hate the pie thrower.

International bowlers should be able to hit 6 times out of 6. It's not as if it is that small a target to aim at. They have been bowling all their lives!!!

Yes, I think they should be able to hit 5 or 6 times out of 6. Bondy showed what a cool head and a ton of talent can do. Shocked Astle couldn't hit!

And in the tv adverts.. they have ian smith with that chick looking at her "****" ... saying that she dont need to know anything bout cricket.. lol...

yep - streaking doesn't bother me

the comment about "bowlers have spent their lives not aiming at the stumps" - come on, why are you trying to defend them so? if they can bowl where they want to and adjust line/length to suit - then surely they can aim at empty stumps. Sometimes I think bowlers actually hit the stumps cleanly with a batsman swinging through the ball and missing it completely? what's up with that?

and...the comment "if he bowled like that, he'd get spanked" - yeah i agree, but there is no batsman there to 'spank' him, the aim is to hit the stumps not to bowl a good ball that wouldn't get spanked.

hah :)

cheerio,
steve.

It's just the way that they slow the game down. I mean, what do they want? Do they want anything, or are they just mindless? I get out enough fine thanks : )

I feel that with Cairns now gone, the team should get back into the groove. They would try to suggest it wasn't a distraction but it's a blatant lie when only a few months ago they were devastated that Cairns didn't make the South African tour because he has such a big influence on them.

Franklin showed last night that he's got some big-hitting potential there, so he'll be very useful down the lower order in the next few years if you ask me.
I think Kyle Mills is also capable of playing some good innings so the onus might be on one of those 2 to improve their batting at international level. Otherwise we just have to hope that Oram gets fit again quickly.

Shane Bond bowled well last night. He was reaching up to speeds of 150 km's and swinging the ball so it was extremely positive to see him take a few wickets and go for minimal runs off his 4 overs.

I think it's going to be a good ODI series but let's hope the standard lifts dramatically from last night.

I agree completely. He looked good, bowling, batting and bowl out! I hope he stays well and I am touching wood.
