***Official*** West Indies in New Zealand

This is the battle of the two most inconsistant sides always with potential promise and hope. All you NZ pundits will tell me that NZ is ranked high in the icc odi rankings and came close to beat australia in the chap hadlee trophy etc etc but really they lack one world class quick bowler and possibly two world class batsman with the hope of fulton and how becoming so. Maybe its time for ryder and todd astle to get a crack against a fairly weak windies bowling attack and maybe its time for the windies to give xavier marshall and narsingh a go beforefinding out the obivious that they are a couple of good batsman and bowlers short

You clearly have no idea. Todd Astle is at least 2 or 3 years away from even being considered.

Apparently not. Todd was born in Palmerston North which is in the North Island (although now plays his cricket in Christchurch). Nathan was born in Christchurch in the South Island. But Astle isn't a common name, so you would have to wonder.

Say what? Xavier Marshall? The worst thing the West Indies can do for Xavier Marshall right now is to pick him. They picked him way too early, took him to Australia, played him in one game and made him miss the domestic season back home. They then picked him in match after match against South Africa to ensure that he was not only exposed for being far less than international standard, but also to destroy his confidence sufficiently that he may never maximize upon his obvious talent.

He's a classic example of a player who tore up at age level cricket then was fast-tracked to the big boy table. I fear the WICB's management of Marshall may have destroyed a promising prospect.

Rawl Lewis may well be the trump card for the WI. Surprised to his figures haven't been bad recently. Had a bit of an impact last time i saw him about two years ago so it'll be interesting to see how he goes.

Twenty20 tonight! woohoo. Got my tickets and im in the South stand (infront of the boundary) with about 7 others. They reckon its going to be a sold out crowd of around 30 000 so lets hope the players turn up as well and play some good cricket.

Unfortunately, I will be working this evening so will miss out on going. But I have got my tickets for March 4, so look forward to that one. I saw McCullum and Marshall out having a quiet one last night. I told McCullum to "whoop their asses". He said he'd give it a go.

I've heard reports of Dwayne Smith smashing balls way out of the ground during training. Aside from fielding, it's about the only thing he's good at (okay, he can bowl a bit too), so I hope he gets something in the Twenty20 so that this tour won't be a total waste for him.

I haven't seen any television listing for coverage of this match or the first ODI. I hope, for the sake of the powers that be, that they don't act a fool and decide not to broadcast this tour...

Hopefully you'll get coverage. I probably have got. The first 24 hour sports channel in these parts has got coverage of all West Indies away tours. Fortunately I've got that channel so I hope they'll bring the Twenty20.

is that Sportsmax? i think they hold the rights to all the WI overseas tours and sell it on to other stations

On basic local television, we generally get coverage of all West Indies cricket and some bonus coverage of England, India and South Africa (we got the Ashes, SA in Ind, Eng in SA, Aus in Ind). It would be very unusual for them not to broadcast the tour, so I'm hoping the listings are just messed up. That said, they've got the correct listings to broadcast the remaining matches of the U19 WC.

The more I think about it, the better I think this series will be. I still expect NZ to win though. Apologies to those that can't watch it :thumbdown
