NEW DELHI, Jan 25: Former cricketer Mohinder Amarnath on Wednesday questioned Sachin Tendulkar's place in the Indian team after repeated failures and said he needs to deliver consistently to retain his place in the playing XI.

A good win again for India. Difficult conditions for batting and again our batsmen were found wanting. Fortunately for India, Dinesh Kaarthick stepped up to the plate when it mattered and played a rather fluent innings under the conditions. AA came to the party too (to no surprise of us AAAS members, mind you. 
). And India bowled and fielded well enough to defend the moderate total they had. To be honest, I thought 189 was only slightly below par and I kinda counted on no dew being there, given that it doesn’t get all that hot at this time of the year there. Chanderpaul was outstanding again and it is a pity that Bravo and Smith couldn’t stay with him for a few more overs.
Hope that Lara will play and produce some magic at Chennai. I am going to the game, BTW. Hopefully, they will allow us cameras inside this time and I can share some pics here at CW. Hoping to go and watch the teams practice as well (the ground is just a 3 min. walk from my house) and again, hopefully will be able to have a chat with Lara, one of my few favourites who I haven’t talked to.
Gambhir and Uthappa are going to open, by all accounts, in the next game. Yuvraj, Dravid, Raina and Kaarthick should form the middle order. Sreesanth, Agarkar, Powar, Harbhajan should form the bowling attack. I think maybe Dhoni could be rested and they could play Sachin in the middle order, even though it seems the idea was to rest him in the third game, since he got a duck yesterday. But I think our fielding would look very strong with that side. Chennai will be a flat batting beauty with a bit of bounce and pace, which will help the ball come on to the bat more than offer any assistance to the bowlers. The dew will be a factor. It gets real chilly around 8 or 9 here and I think the team that bats second will have an advantage. But it is still possible to bat first and bat the opposition out of the game, esp. if you can get early wickets with the white new ball because it does a bit more under the lights with the chill atmosphere. Interesting game on the cards.

same here! i thought we needed to win these tight games...although u could also say that we are always lacking something...sometimes its the bowling and then its the batting. It all depends on how u want to look at it.What a win... really happyafter a series of disappointments.

I can fairly well predict when the West Indies are going to lose chasing an achievable score.
i think their plan is to hold off till the world cup...if his slump continues or if india fares badly or both, i think he might be asked to step aside....

His previous match was decent, this one was good. Joginder Sharma really blew it and assuming Pathan maintains decent form, he may never get a call-up again.
Looked quite ordinary yesterday, albeit on a slow track.

I know he didn't look good but if he's good enough to be picked, you need to show faith and give him a fair shot. Something like five games. It does no good to jettison guys after one game.

With some guys, you can just tell they don't belong. Mind you, I'm not saying that about Joginder Sharma.
He deserves another chance but Pathan is experienced and somewhat proven at this level so it's better to test his form with only six matches to go.

I know what you're saying, but if you're going to treat this solely as a preparation for the WC, then sit out Dravid and play them both. Find out what you have in him, instead of using one game as a benchmark of his potential.
Yes, with some guys you can tell but not usually in a single game, especially on that pitch. There are multitude of reasons why someone would have a bad game and they may actually be very class players. I don't know if Sharma is crap or not, but if you had faith enough to pick him for international cricket, then give him a shot.
Thats why it infuriated me when they picked Gagandeep Singh, and after not playing a single game...off he went home.

I would have persisted with Joginder for two more matches to see what he's got. Pathan doesn't need more than a few matches to settle in if he's in form.silentstriker said:

Looking at how he has bowled in last one year, I think he needs to play an entire season of domestic cricket to be even considered for Team India.
