Regardless don't think the players have thought this whole thing through. They have pretty much screwed WI cricket's immediate future. Pissing off the richest cricket board which has been friendly with WICB is just stupid. Now BCCI will probably sue the pants off WICB and not tour them for a few years.

When they threatened to pull out of the Aussie tour if Steve Bucknor wasn't sacked, and Habajan Singh exonerated for racism.

Can't believe flem was the first one to make that point. The management is as much in the wrong if not more so than the players. They called the players bluff, just unfortunately for all parties the players weren't bluffing

Come on, when has BCCI acted like a vindictive juvenile bitch?

See, this is why you can't use sarcasm on CW without emoticons.

Btw, this was the first thing that came to your mind?? My god man, follow the news :p

Yeah most people would.

Though interestingly, SL team hadn't been paid for almost eight months on end and they went on to tour SA while that was still going on. But that really can't be allowed in this era of professionalism. Companies can't get away with stuff like this, neither should the boards.
The "patriotism" factor may not be there as much either for the Windies, a regional group, than SL who would have had that card played against them in the same situation.

Probably a good thing too, West Indies A team is more like a West Indies Z team most of the time.
Not true, our A team hasn't lost a series for ages. They are up there with most other teams a teams, especially the bowling attack (although they had a bad game just recently).

Having said that, a replacement team simply wouldn't have been acceptable and I'm glad we don't have to witness that.

To summarise my position on the whole thing, I understand why the players are so upset, they were treated appallingly and guys who have shown an inclination to play cricket in most circumstances like Sammy, Ramdin and Roach are refusing to play as well.

The WICB are an absolute joke and the fact their emergency delegation was going to arrive 10 days after the 1st ODI shows how lazy, arrogant and incompetent they are. In this day and age communication is easy as well, it seems they have never heard of Skype!

My problem with the players actions is that they have probably driven West Indies cricket off the edge of a cliff by walking out of a tour hosted by the BCCI of all people. In doing that they have shown no regard for cricket fans, especially those in the Caribbean. They have effectively bitten the hand that feeds them and I really hope they were aware of all the ramifications of their decision.

I dread the next few weeks, all sorts of faecal matter is going to hit the fan.

Port Elizabeth is going to miss out on a test match later this year at the hands of the greedy West Indies players and their incompetent board, which is not fair as we don't get much international cricket. Why can't we lose these jokers and get someone like Ireland in, or even Afghanistan? Never thought I would say this but I hope the BCCI sues them into oblivion.

From my understanding, the West Indies players aren't being greedy, they don't want more money, they just want to protect their current level of pay and not have to take a massive pay cut. The problem with the players isn't that their anger is unjustified, it's the course of action they've chosen to take because of it. Walking out of an Indian tour hurts everyone, not least themselves.

Would be hilarious if the BCCI banned them from the IPL. Banned from the highest paying tournament in the world for refusing to play because of a salary cut. Sweet, glorious irony

The way I see it they're just mad about being mismanaged. This isn't the first time the WICB or WIPA have pulled out of promises or gone against the players' wishes. The paycut is bad, but the way it has been handled seems to be the major concern (saying the players approved of it when they claim they didn't, and making them sign a document they weren't fully informed on). Money is a factor but isn't the crux of the issue.

They did well in the BPL,got some good pacers, remember they did beat Bangladesh, and made it to the Asian cricket final with Sri Lanka.

I can understand the damages bill and the BCCI are well within their rights to do so, but considering it could destroy a test nation beyond repair financially I think a bit of forgiveness and altruism wouldn't be out of place. Cricket loses if a test nation, even one lower down the order, can't keep going.

But then the BCCI don't really have the same cricketing values as the rest of us when it comes to product. Endless test matches against their two best mates, ODIs against Sri Lanka and Pakistan and eternal T20 competitions where Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard can be "hometown heroes" for the Chennai Corpserobbers and the Mumbai Moneygrubbers are what they want. That's ok when you're into that, but a lot of the world and this forum isn't so it sucks for the rest of us.

Do you think cricket needs a strong West Indies?
