Caribbean players are pretty popular in India but WW is being pretty delusional, as usual. You think the IPL fans are thinking "Ohnoes Dwayne Smith and pollard are no longer avilable for the IPL? Where will we get other hacks to replace them? Woe is us".

Your players just refused to play for the West Indies. It's pretty clear what they'll do if the WICB refuses to sign a NOC. They'll just go anyway.

And even if they don't, the IPL will go on and barely anyone will care.

Neither the Windies players nor the WICB has more than a 5c piece to bargain with the BCCI here.
They can have the scraps!!..many will be sacked anyway..they won't be getting any young talent that will be emerging from the CPL though...and that's just the bottom line.

Furthermore your point about our young players is totally flawed when you consider that Darren Bravo has had several offers to play in the IPL but guess what? HE'S CHOSEN TO STAY WITH WI!!..so if you think all our players are as greedy as Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Russell, Gayle etc you're sadly mistaken.

In closing The ipl sideshow will go on yes!!..with more average indian players. WI talent will be sorely missed and any logical thinking individual knows it..

Narine= top wicket taker

Gayle= amoungst the top scorers

Dwayne Bravo= key in the title winning team

Pollard= best fielder around and explosive batting

The list in endless and these are the type of impact players IPL will be missing once we stop our talent going to the circus.

All i'm saying is it will hurt the product in the longterm!!...how can that be denied? :blink: .

As for the issue at hand...I am actually really interested to see what will happen to West Indian cricket if the WICB is forced to declare bankruptcy. Will the ICC bail them out? Will all the talented players who can afford to make careers elsewhere leave the country? Will the WICB dissolve and the West Indies as we know them no longer exist, resulting in each national cricket board applying as a unique cricket playing country instead? Would be nice to see how competitive Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad will be when up against Ireland, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan...

I do hope that the long-term outcome of this would be a stronger, better managed WICB. Because if going bankrupt makes a cricket board get its **** together, then it sets a good precedent on how to deal with other cash-strapped, poorly managed boards (Like the SLCB...)

Because it won't hurt the product long-term. IPL banned Pakistani players and we don't have English ones and it goes on just fine...

EDIT: Actually why do I even bother. Lemme just reply like WW would.

LOL!!.. You must be joking. Don't make me laugh :laugh: Well clearly you know more about the IPL than I do so who am I to argue...?! 8-)

I don't think the BCCI really care about the actual quality of the IPL as long as people still watch it though, and as well as some of the West Indian players have done I don't think there's a significant market of people who watch it just to see them specifically.

Furthermore, it wouldn't surprise me if any or even all of those players specifically chose the IPL over the WICB anyway.

That WW is calling BCCI, and not WICB, greedy and short-termist here boggles my mind, regardless of his acerbic wit.

Pretty easily. I'm living in India now and haven't heard anyone saying that the Windies players are crucial to the spectacle. I'd even wager the IPL would be hurt more by Glen Maxwell pulling out than all the Caribbean guys put together.

Agree 100%

The target market for the IPL are Indians - they don't give a crap who plays for them in my experience so long as an Indian team wins :laugh:

If the BCCI really wanted to stitch the WICB/WI players up they would get CA and ECB to create an IPL window

If that happened, Pollard et al would be a distant memory

Are you being dim on purpose? No one cares who plays in the IPL. Players like Gayle and Narine may have a good fanbase here, but that wont stop the fans from watching the IPL anyway if those guys are banned

Many of them won't have a choice...they will be out of the door by all accounts. What i'm saying is any NEW talent that emerges from the CPL will not be encouraged to join that sideshow...and if it's a matter of playing for WI which includes world cups and stuff, plus there's the CPL...over IPL then i'm sure our kids will see sense..why go to the IPL when they could play for WI, play CPL and probably be allowed to go to the big bash and English one too? our board will make sure the IPL is toxic to our young talent..you can be sure of that.

Again DON'T BE RUDE..be a grown up and debate the points at hand. Secondly if the product is poor people will soon lose interest..Narine is a magician in that competition and Gayle can create shockwaves..losing these sort of talents may not have an adverse effect straight away..but sooner or later people will get bored of the status quo.

Heh, and their players have shown just how much playing for the Windies means to them too.
