Harmison is retired, Hoggard a Test specialist, so Flintoff would reallty be the only one to complement this from the known England players.Flintoff, Hoggard & Harmison are all not playing for various reasons - who else would you pick??
Tremlett has a good List A record, and a pretty good record this season too. Whenever I've seen him bowl in ODIs though, he's been dire. Is there any explanation for that - favourable home conditions or something?Harmison is retired, Hoggard a Test specialist, so Flintoff would reallty be the only one to complement this from the known England players.
I'm struggling to find better bowlers than the selected lot, but at the same time the list doesn't inspire a lot of faith either.
Some left-field options could have been Bruce, Kirtley, Martin-Jenkins or Godknowswho and I still would probably have doubted thier combined feasibility as an ODI-class attack.
I was wondering about that myself. Stage-related yips perhaps?Tremlett has a good List A record, and a pretty good record this season too. Whenever I've seen him bowl in ODIs though, he's been dire. Is there any explanation for that - favourable home conditions or something?
tbf he's not played many games. Of those he had, a couple were after he was flown into Aus with no FC cricket for months, and the others were either against Aus or Bang IIRC.I was wondering about that myself (re Tremlett). Stage-related yips perhaps?
EDIT: Pfft. Most people were saying the same about Prior, and we know what happened there.Couldn't remember what county Yardy played for...I'm not surprised by the answer.
Could be worse At least they're picking an OD side, rather than a tinkered Test side
Except Prior was an unknown in Tests whereas Yardy isn't unknown, in fact he's very well known.EDIT: Pfft. Most people were saying the same about Prior, and we know what happened there.
The same thing as happened when Geraint Jones was introduced. And we all know how that ended.EDIT: Pfft. Most people were saying the same about Prior, and we know what happened there.
I don't know why that's funny...
I just got laugh after reading that post. laughed on english selectors and not on you.I don't know why that's funny...
Very well known? Hardly. He's only played in 5 ODI's. And tbf, he failed with the bat, yes. But his economy rate with the ball is under 3, which can only be applauded really.Except Prior was an unknown in Tests whereas Yardy isn't unknown, in fact he's very well known.
I will happily eat my hat if he blows the WI away but I just don't see it happening.
That doesn't even make sense. Jones was a relative success at first, and the problems came when we persisted with him after it was clear he was out of his depth. It all depends on the ability of Peter Moores to recognise when to drop his 'favourites', and if he is able to do that then it isn't really a problem. I see no issue with him introducing his own players initially, as he obviously knows them well enough to have a general idea whether they can cut it.The same thing as happened when Geraint Jones was introduced. And we all know how that ended.
