*Official* Warne vs Murali Discussion

meh a lot of intangibles there. I could just as easily say Murali did better in wi no? And in India. And against India. I also heard Murali did better than Warne in county cricket.

I’m pretty sure he was a better odi player and better control over his variations which makes him the greater spinner for me. I know cw does not like mixing formats but succeeding in both formats just feels like greater versatility.

But fair enough if you feel Warne was more intelligent and all that. I haven’t watched so my opinion may matter little
WI Warne was poor thanks to a series where he played injured.

Murali was worse in India IMO. Fair enough he was better against them at home though.

Murali failed in Australia and India. Warne failed in India, West Indies and in Australia against India. So I don't see how you can rate Warne on this.

Warne rarely bulldozed batting lineups like Murali. Having an aggressive body language, sledging etc doesn't make a spinner more aggressive. Infact Murali never went on to bowl on to rough as Warne to restrict scoring. He got everything off the middle of the pitch.

Warne was an extra-ordinary genius than Warne s another myth. Murali exactly knew how to play with each batsman's technique, rather than psyche. Hussey in an interview tel;ls how Murali could recall what should be bowled to each batsman, not only by him, even by pacemen. What ever the advantage Warne have here is a wafer thin one.

The two telling factors are Warne's batting and Murali's ODI feats. That decides who is the greater of the player.
Warnes failure in WI was due to an injury series.

Warne did bull doze lineups especially early career before McGrath came to the fore to share wickets.

Warne I personally saw take wickets against the run of play many times against set bats since he didn't mind getting smacked in the process. Not as much Murali.

Murali is a better ODI bowler agreed. Not tests.
