The thing is, we've seen a lot of fast bowlers come through the ranks in the past 20 years. Such a strong era. It's not as if we don't know what we're looking at. And we're to a man saying, despite our current woes, that we're about to see one of the great eras in Aussie fast bowling. It's more than understandable to be skeptical until the product is out there doing damage in an arena you can see, but the wisdom of crowds counts for a lot. We think our batting is close to all-time worst in terms of depth, and our results are backing that up. We say the same of our spin stocks, and on cue no spinner has emerged for years. But our fast bowlers, these guys are -good-, and we may well look back on this crop as the best ever. That is a monster call. But Pattinson averages 23 currently and I've seen a ****ton of him, and I'm telling you that average is going to go down. He is a phenom.

Cummins is of similar ilk.

But that is quite literally all we're producing right now. Quicks. Very destructive, very good quicks. You can sit and cast doubt and wait for the carnage to unfold, but carnage it will be. Not that we'll be much chance of chasing even pitiful totals if our skills with the blade hold for par.

Oh come now Maximas.......I had you pegged as better than that.

Please show me where I have said your attack is not any good......I've gone to great pains to say the opposite. I have said that with the small No of tests they've played between them it is foolhardy to call them the best in the world (Arthur) in fact it is very debatable whether they are better than ours.....but we'll find that out soon enough so like point getting all wound up about it in here.

I would like to point out the major flaw in Socials argument though..........

So if we've got Jimmy and Swann who are generally accepted as the best quick and spinner in the series............wouldn't that be hmmmmmm 50% of the attack?? so how do you've us covered in almost every respect??

Now you want to specify "pace" attack. Look, the series starts in 8 days.....lets revisit this discussion at the end of it. If your bowlers out bowl ours I'll be the first to pay them their fair dues.

Not sure what your News Corp jibe was all about, I've paid your quicks due respect and I'm well aware of their potential.........I just don't go for creaming my pants over any player until they've got some miles under the belt. Let me put it this way, at this stage of proceedings going into the biggest of all test series I'd prefer to go in with Broad in my side than I would Bird........even though I perfectly accept that Bird will more than likely go onto being a far better test bowler.

And to show this isn't just a blinkered viewpoint, I'm also getting very sick of the hype surrounding Joe Root......he hasn't done sweet FA yet as far as I'm concerned. As and when he does then I'll get excited over him but right now........he's just another youngun having a crack.

You can drag up as many comparisons you like but its irrelevant to the facts that they have a woeful fitness record. Some, like Cummins, have a fitness record as bad as Shaun Tait.

England always organise English players to switch counties if needed, happened to Struass I think, Bopara last year and now Compton.

been done regularly in recent years with Strauss playing for Somerset. It mainly because we have started 20/20 comp so no first class matches for him to play in.

So it seems safe to say Clarke will be at 4 for the Ashes and if either of Cowan or Usman is picked, Hughes will be at 5

No Siddle, Pattinson or Starc in the second warmup game. I'd have thought they'd want to see some more of Siddle at least, rather than playing Faulkner as a bowler again given that he'd presumably be a long shot to be selected for the test side. Most likely reason is that Siddle is cemented into his spot along with Pattinson and Lyon, which means it's between Harris and Starc for the last one based on how Harris bowls here. With Faulkner being selected again though, who knows.

Except for Bird, I'd say all our fast bowlers have had a decent amount of test matches by which we can judge them by, they all look dangerous to me, and my impression of English bowlers over the years (bar Anderson/Swann) is that they just don't turn up sometimes. But hey, in 8 days we will know.

What's Rogers generally like at rotating the strike. It's something I think Watson struggles with. Really important to do it early on
