After being reduced to 48/2 then 73/3 it's a good sprited fightback by England....

Whatever happens now it will be a great match...

What???? Man i'm a die hard English fan, haven't you noticed that 90 percent of my posts are about the English team:(
And what makes you think that i consider them to be a laughing stock? I think this is a team that should be taken very seriously.8D
Sorry, but I have to laugh at that post - I think he's actually Indian, but wishes he was English because of our superior side! ;)

Well, I've all along maintained we're not as bad as everyone on here seems to be making out, and put my money where my mouth is with a fiver on us to win the current game against SL...

Bring back Nasser at 3!

Actually don't as he's doing a pretty good job at 4! I say give Blackwell or Collingwood a go at 3 in the first 15, but Nasser after that - flexibility is the key.

Early wickets was the key, and looks to me like Caddick and Anderson (playing only his 4th One Day game of any sort as a professional) have started very well.

Surely it must be a record that Anderson's set for least experienced ODI debutant?

I think Stewart at 3, I like him as a player and think if he had time to build his innings he would be dangerous...

Yeh Stewey at 3 sounds good to me. The only problem is that who will shepherd the youngsters through the last 10 because they've been collapsing regularly.

Good job by Harmison. That should give him some deserved confidence.

Good points both of these - Stewart used to open for a long time and had very successful partnership with Nick Knight for a while. However after Hussain there would be alot of young less experienced players which is not good.

Pleased to see Harmison getting some good figures. He got a couple of wickets early which probably boosted his confidence, as he then helped keep Jayawardene and Arnold tied down.

Good win for England!:D

it was closer then i thought, i glad they have blooded Anderson in early he will be a good Prospect, But Sri Lanka NEVER win without MM, so when he is fit we shall see

Well I am glad that finally england managed to
win against the sri lankans. Not very convincing
though.... the lankans dropped too many chances.
It was almost as if they wanted england to score
300.

The last time Stewie played at 3 it was against Australia and Pakistan in the Natwest Series but he didn't do well and quite often just nudged it around and the innings lost momentum, although I feel he is a bit low at the moment as he could come in with 4 balls left and have to play it and get a 1st baller and it looks bad even if he didn't have much of a chance...

Ya mean the one in the WC which he jumped miles in the air, parried up, spun round and caught it? The Comentators said that really shouldn't have been out as the batsman had hit it so well and so high...but out it was! That was when the WC was in England and I could actually watch it live as it was on the BBC then...:(!:(!:(!

I haven't seen much of Ronnie Irani at all. I haven't had the chance to see him bat a proper innings yet so I haven't seen his full potential. But his bowling and fielding really need a lift IMO. I hope for his sake he starts making some decent runs because from what I have seen it's all he would really be good for.
correct me if i am wrong...

In the Natwest Series and the ICC Champions Trophy he bowled, batted and Fielded well, I just think he needs to be dropped down the order. Also he needs a break, and I want to see Adam Hollioake in, even if I won't see any footage of him for my collection :(!:(!:(!

I think I am right when I say Ronnie Irani is a good first class player but doesn't have the class to make it in International cricket. I just got his stats on cricinfo...

He averages 16.05 with the bat, a highest score of 53. And with the ball he has a strike rate of 52.9, and an economy rate of 4.59.
His bowling is comparable to Nathan Astle, also Right arm medium, the figures are similar- astle strike rate 47.9, and economy 4.64. But Astle isn't an all rounder as Irani is classed as. Irani has to at least lift his bowling or his batting, I think his batting cos the way he bowls has little potential IMO.
Right now, at least on paper he is a nothing player.
But, as Navjot Sidhu says, Statistics are like bikinis, what they reveal is suggestive, what they hide is crucial.
but then he also says statistics are like miniskirts, they reveal more than they hide.
sidhu is a bit of a pervert isnt he!
