And in that case, it can hardly be called a case of D/L not working!aussie_beater said:I think the target was quite fair....D/L works most of the time fairly well, except when teams sometime screw up the calculations like SA against SL in the world cup.

Australia were one of the poorer teams in 84-87 until they won the world cup.Bapu Rao Swami said:Sports is all about consistency!
and as a team South Africa and Australia are shining examples of that. Since 1984 people have been predicting Australia's demise, since South Africa's re-admission in 92 they've been dominating the game with Australia why because these teams ARE consistent! You heard from me first, Australia and South Africa will always always remain the within the top 3 teams.
thats what sets Australians and SoutH Africans apart. They are extermely fit, extremely consistent and can depend on one or two blokes to win the game. Even in the world cup 99 and 03 SA and Aus have never really hammered a team until the final of WC 2003... They have 11 talented players in the squad, and acording to the law of stats one of them is bound to click no matter what the odds are. Its very rare that you see these teams have no players clicking..someone always wins the day for them, in this occassion it was Gilchrist, Ponting and Lee.
I read a very fascinating article by a West Indian cricket selector and he points out the same reasons.
New Zealand would have made ~270 on average... making the WI 33-over total a little lower than Australia's today...Mr Mxyzptlk said:
I wasn't commenting on this particular situation, but just in general. I don't know of the specifics of when the method was applied, so I cannot comment on this match.Neil Pickup said:How is Australia being set 225 @ 6.62 an over an unfair target?
90 in 15 with ten wickets would be revised to something closer to 28-30 off 3.krkode said:For example, scoring 20 runs in 3 overs is much easier than 90 in 15, even though the Required Run rate is higher in the first scenario. It's all about wickets in hand... for that matter, I don't know the specifics of this match, so let it be known that my comment was not directed to this game but to the D/L method in general.
Even though Zimbabwe did not win a match in this series and might not even win 1 Zimbabwe still have a few good playersthe least said about Zimbabwe the better
Except almost winning the first game for India.:ODochster said:ganguly hasn't done much with the bat this summer... (VB series i mean)...
