*Official* VB Series - Australia, India & Zimbabwe

A few points.

1) What a shocker of a pitch. I understand people's complaints that the pitches during the test series favoured batsman, but I mean Sydney's pitch was crazy.
2) For the person who mentioned the black selection policy, even if that is true which I doubt personally, as someone said that had absolutely nothing to do with today's match. The whole top order were out done, white and black.
3) Streak and Taibu are real fighters. Gotta love players like them, I don't think any cricketing fan in the world would not love Taibu, he's just great. I feel sorry for Streak sometimes, he's such a class act and his great captaincy and fighting spirit would show more with a slightly stronger side.
4) Damn it, Australia got a bonus point :( ;)

I think rushing any young players (black or white) into the national side before they have got some experiance and are ready is detrimental to their development. How can they learn to bat properly when they are not spending any time at the crease? Zimbabwe is right in assuming that the future of their cricket is with the black players but they need to set up structures which helps them develop before they play at the highest level. They should send their youth teams and A teams to as many countries as possible to gain that experiance. Set up training camps in schools and a national acadamy. The recent trend for A teams to play in domestic comps should be expanded. They can also visit associate countries which would further promote the game. This should also apply to countries like Bangladesh and Kenya. Why can't a country send a team to another country to just play the domestic sides? eg Kenya plays each Australian state at a country centre. To increase the talent pool and standards more needs to be done at the grass roots level.

You know, its times like these when your favourite man isnt doing the best, you can turn to others to brighten your day (although that 6 cheered me up)...

GO CLARKEY!:D GO WILLIAMS!:D

So much for the 'superfast outfeild' though, no one used it.

Pretty hard when you've only got 3 or 4 first-class teams and your country is fighting civil unrest, racism, etc. I'm sure the ZCA would love to send players all around the world to improve their games but they just don't have the money. If the country's political environment was settled they would have some class players at their disposal. Guys like Goodwin, Johnson and Andy Flower all left Zimbabwe for personal reasons well before their 'natural' careers were going to end. It is easy for us Australian's to tell other countries what to do with their cricketing structure, but sometimes it is just not possible. I personally think that Zimbabwe are doing exceptionally well for the limited player pool they have and the situation in their country. They have a very young side and alot of potential.

I totally agree with your points. I was thinking of an ideal world where the ICC put up the money for those tours. Zimbabwe have a very talented team. It would be nice to see that talent nutured and blossomed instead of being thrown to the wolves. It would improve the standard of world cricket in general.

Heath Streak should be honoured by the ICC for his dedication to Zimbabwe cricket & his all-round ability as a cricketer.
Recently we've been talking about players who you'd want to bat, bowl or play for your life..well I can tell you that Heath Streak would be one of the players i'd pick, he's a team player & i've never seen him give anything less than 150% on the field.

Fair point. So why did Tony Greig say this pitch is perfect?? I couldn't believe my ears when he was doing his pitch report and you could see jigsaw pieces all over the pitch and he was saying it's perfect???? He is so biased towards Sydney and NSW you would think he was born there. Did he say anything good about the Melbourne pitch on Friday afternoon - a pitch that yielded 550+ runs for the day??

Click on the button at the bottom right of each message which says 'quote'. Or you can do it the hard way.

I think the pitch was actually oretty good. It wasnt perfect, but it wasnt bad. Both teams bowled well and batted poorly. Australia batted much better than Zimababwe, but I thought the bowling was fairly even.

And an Australia v India final is not set in stone. I think Australia in teh final is set in stone, but listen to the man you admire, heath Streak. He says ZIm defiantely arent just in it to make up the numbers. They will challenge India to make the final, or at least look like they might early on.

Zimbabwe cricket cant be fixed before ZImababwe itself. Cricket is teh least of teh country's worries at the moment, as they are doing well for what they have got.

Just focus on the team they have. its not that bad. Carlisle, Vermeulen, Flower, Streak, Ervine and Price are all very good players, all all the others bar Sibanda have all had their moments at international cricket and are capable of pulling miraculous things off. They just all need to click in an early game with their batting.

I admit a lineup of:

G.Flower
Carlsile
Vermuelen
A.Flower
Goodwin
Wishart
Streak
Ervine
Blignaut/Hondo/Friend in good form
Price
Olonga

looks a lot better, but its not going to happen and we have to face that and look at the possible talent of Sibanda nd Matsikenyeri and the proven talent and fighting spirit of Taibu (unlukcy not to be in teh above team).

My India Squad for tomorrow:

Sehwag
Tendulkar
Ganguly
Laxman
Yuvraj
Badani
Patel
Agarkar
Kumble
Pathan
Bhandari

For me, it's a perfect sort of game to allow Rahul Dravid a well earned rest, and try Parthiv Patel with the gloves. Balaji was quite ineffective against Australia, and its time to try Bhandari in my view.

Badani is a fine batsman and should be given a chance ahead of Sanjay Bangar.
