Well gee, that Fox article above has put some red faces on a few people in this thread. Funny how quickly we are to judge. Why on Earth should Ricky Ponting walk if he was pretty close to 100% sure Jayawardene didn't take it cleanly?! Imagine if he had walked; we can be sure that he'd never consider walking EVER again (even now, he'll be more cautious about believing fielders who appear so adamant at the time) and Jayawardene would have been painted a cheat in claiming a non-catch, highly unfair considering he wasn't sure either.

As for the match, wow. The batting was, just, wow. This was Symonds' best knock surely.

Ponting's actions today just weren't on. If a fielder claims to have taken a legitimate catch, then who the feck is he to just not believe him? It shows remarkable arrogance from a man I used to respect until recently.

Good knock from him and Symonds though.
I'll have a friendly pop at Ricky Ponting when he deserves it - today he didn't. This kind of nonsense reaction is quite ridiculous at best, almost hysterical at worst.

Mind you, he's probably gutted that he's lost your respect.

My God Symonds and Ponting were brilliant yesterday. Fantastic knocks from the both of them. Great fight back from Australia.

And Murali going for 99 is unbelievable.

Symonds effort in Wellington and Symonds effort in Sydney.

Both very classy knocks. I can't split them personally.

i may give Sydney a slight edge because of what was the score when he came in and the importance of the match, but the wellington innings was more brutal for sure..

Quote from Fox sport News item-
Ponting - "I guess that was fair enough as far as I was concerned. That is just the way it turned out today and I was on the receiving end of one of them."
WTF is he on about ? Why is he at the receiving end when he gets out of Jail for nothing !!

This is sheer hypocricy on his part , to keep going on about him being at the receiving end !! Bull Sh**

More so given that he is the Most Economical ODI bowler in International ODI cricket ATM .

Had the same Ponting saga happened to a Sri Lankan batsman , I have absolutely no doubt that Ponting and his Team would have castigated the Batsman and made sure he walked .

Even if that had not happened , they would have put absolute pressure on Benson (who I have to say, may be a good umpire but is definitely not a neutral from what I have seen of him in the VB series) and Parker, and I have no doubt they would have got a 3rd Umpire involved.

The virtues of being Australia !!

Nah, an Australian wouldn't have claimed a catch they knew bounced :)

Am I the only one here who thinks that there's something fishy about Mahela's retraction of the catch and apologising ? :)
