I don't think Gillespie will get an ODI recall - not before Shaun Tait gets called up anyway. Moreover, we're already well served for ODI bowlers: McGrath; Lee; Bracken; Clark; Tait; Watson; Hogg etc. If Dizzy does return to the International theatre, in my view, it will be in the longer form of the game - and most likely as a replacement for McGrath, if injury etc were to strike him.

298 runs at under 20(Tests and one dayers) this summer and you say he can bat. A typical South African flat track bully feasting on Zimbabwe and Bangladesh bowling. All he needs to do is grow a beard and his southpaw reincarnation of Brearley will be complete.
Yeah I'm getting fed up of Smith.. I disagree with your captaincy comment because I think he's pretty good, but when you've got a mouth as big as Smith's you need to perform with the bat all the time.. Also don't like his manner at interviews, most SA'ns doff their caps and acknowledge the interviewer when he says "good luck" but Smith just runs off..

Hey Hey Hey !! Don't be so sarcastic Mate.

I've lived in Derby for short periods doing locums while in the UK few years back.

Its a beaultiful place, where extremely polite and very friendly and courteous English people live and its a very nice place !!

You should go there and meet the locals and then you would agree .

nah not that way, once he keeps bowling well he should make the test squad to South Africa i would think behind McGrath, Lee & Bracken.

I really hope he doesn't think that I was being serious.

I've already upset all your New Zealand brethren, and now it appears that a couple of our yank friends (Fusion and Slifer) are gunning for me.

I honestly took it in jest - and really, Derby is the armpit of the East Midlands. Luckily, it has one thing going for it.

It's not Nottingham.

I don't know why you're baggin Hopes. He is a very economical bowler in one dayers and a handy wicket taker he is also a versatile batter who can bat anywhere in the order and fill any batting role required.

yep, hes certainly a big improvement from Watson

in all seriousnes though he is an idea supersub given the current rules as he can contribute very well with either bat or ball - i thought he bowled quite well last night too.

I've got to say he's starting to impress me more and more. I'd still probably prefer Watson, mind you

I'd prefer both. Certainly room for them with the supersub option.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Would give us great flexibility in terms of the toss.

well the game were Jayasiria absolutely murdered him he looked less than convincing. I still dont think he and Dorey are up to internatinal standard.

Ha ha, how many of us thought we'd be saying that after the Ashes?

Actually, who am I kidding - we all probably knew it'd be on the cards. Having said that, I reckon Clark's done OK.

Everyone's allowed to have a poor game every now and then. Lee goes for 80+ occasionaly, and he's the best ODI bowler in the world, and McGrath goes for 5+ an over everytime he comes up against Hayden in a domestic game. That was really Hopes' only poor bowling effort in his ODI career, and I don't know many bowlers who can contain Sanath when he's in that sort of mood.

I must admit I did think Gillespie was gone after the Ashes, but that was only because he had a mediocre New Zealand tour and he was bowling poorly in both one day and test cricket in England. But saying that, if he is bowling well, he should be at least a reserve bowler for South Africa.
