Why did they drop White, didnt get a fair chance imo.
i woudn't say so, as far i can see it White was picked as a replacement for Hogg & looking at his bowling in the 2 times i saw him bowling for a lenghty spell, it has potential but not good enough to be Australia main ODI spinner, so i woudn't have him in the team since also Watson & Hopes would be ahead of him for all-rounder roles.

White is a batting all-rounder ithey should've allowed him to bat. Has done well against IInternational teams as a batsmen.

well he wasnt always a batting all-rounder , his batting has come of age of late while his bowling has gone down, in the games he played australia couldn't bat him in position where he could have showed off his abilities. But undoubtebly he has been picked for his bowling abilities which for now i would say isn't good enough for him to be the main ODI spinner, that job should be with Hogg uo to the WC at least.

Are sri lanka likely to even win a game in this VB series?? Apart from their recent poor form I can't see the bouncy pitches suiting them as well as S.A and AUST
As far as I know only WACA in Perth is bouncy , so lets wait and see shall we ?

Is it not a meaningless Twenty20 game though - give the future a bit of exposure.
but they dropped another youngster in White to bring Hopes in.

Find the lack of faith in the spinners for Twenty20 interesting, when historically they've done pretty well.

I think it is stupid how they broke up the NZ, AUS, SAF combo. Probably because last time these 3 teams played in the VB series AUS didn't make the finals.

I think it was because of a mix-up due to the WI contracts thing. WI were supposed to play Tests in Aus last year, but because in prior series the Windies didn't have their strongest side, Cricket Australia decided to ask NZ if they could come over a year early to make sure that the series vs WI wasn't an aberration.

When you add in the yearly Chappell-Hadlee Trophy - which administrators are probably pretty worried about overdoing the NZ vs Aus thing - that probably explains some of it.

Yeah and it's been close most of the time these 3 teams have played in the ODI series. Well, they have only played 3 times but all 3 of them have been great series.

Again I find that strange as well. Since it makes better sense with TV ratings and financially as well to have that combination. I believe there will be a series of SA/NZ/Australia before World Cup 2007 .

If there is concern about overplaying Chappell-Hadlee trophy they could play it every two years interspersed by the SA/NZ/Australia VB series in alternate years.

I'd say it's got more to do with the fact that Aus and NZ play each other every couple of months or so now.

Are you suggesting Ponting to open? Or just putting his name first as captain?
First because he is ponting. However with Katich opening, Ponting may just aswell open anyway.

Even though Katich has performed well in recent ODIs?

Clarke and Hogg at The Oval is a perfect example. They're also very helpful in bowling the overs in time.

Why can Symonds only bowl in the early 120s for such a muscular and big fella? Could add another bow to his armoury if he can get a yard of pace to his bowling to the 130s.

The Australian ODI side for the VB series has been announced.

I really like the inclusion of Brett Dorey. Also Martyn is back into the squad after overcoming an injury.

Australia squad Ricky Ponting (capt), Adam Gilchrist (wk), Simon Katich, Damien Martyn, Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Andrew Symonds, James Hopes, Brad Hogg, Brett Dorey, Brett Lee, Nathan Bracken, Glenn McGrath, Stuart Clark
