*Official Third Test at Headingley* 25-29 August

Man Rahane looks a shadow of the bloke who made that great ton in Melbourne less than a year ago. What’s going on with him?
Has he ever lived up to his potential? Class knocks here and there but overall average player.

Much more helpful conditions than today tbf. Was pretty green.
Oh yeah. Really, with Anderson and Broad in genuine greentop conditions, it's basically just a question of whether they themselves have their heads switched on or not. No batting side in the last 10-12 years has really managed to cope with them when they are.

Yeah, this bowling change is either going to prove genius or very very dumb. Can't see any middle ground.
I don't mind it as long as Root is prepared to go straight to Overton anyway if Mo doesn't look like causing much trouble in his next over

Whatever it takes!!!
Horrible. Neither a defensive shot nor a full-blooded boundary shot, just begging to nick it.
The first innings of the first test perhaps, this was pretty much a proper drive. Poor shot yes, but not what you say it is IMO.

He looked good both today and in the second innings of the last test, better than he has for a while but he seems to be way too keen to drive balls which is more 2014 Virat than 2018 Virat. Hopefully he can take a leaf out of Rohit's book and wait for balls in his slot to score off.

But then again, all 3 wickets today were poor shots. They were all good balls but nothing you don't expect from an opening bowler on the first day of a test in England.

I know at 26/3 it's very easy to say.......but the decision to bat here is just incredibly dumb.

Cloudy sky's in Leeds aside, why the **** wouldn't India keep the foot on the throat and throw the under pressure English line-up straight back under the cosh? Our bowlers are good enough to feel they can make amends for that horror show at Lords........I bet the batsmen don't.
Especially when they did not select Ashwin. Batting first would have made sense if we had two spinners. This was a nothing decision IMO. Something to show that they were being positive than any real cricketing reason. So stupid.

But then again, I would have preferred us to play Ashwin for Shami and bat first anyways. These were poor shots that caused the wickets here and still think 300 looks par for this wicket, at least based on what we have seen so far. Reminds me of the 3rd test of the last series in 2018.

Okay this is a legit amazing stat. How did Tendulkar go on that endless, interminable wait to get his 100th international hundred?
Unless Ive ****ed my statsguru-ing up, it was only 34 innings. People often forget that he played on way longer after his 100th 100 in tests which is when he was truly terrible. He was meh but hardly disastrous on the 0-4 tours to England and Australia. I guess Kohli's is a little misleading because there's quite a few t20s in there.

Hopefully common sense will prevail. Sometimes Root seems to forget the old adage of doing what the batsmen least want him to do.

TBF, Moeen is perhaps the bowler Rahane least wants to face anyways. He just looks so hopeless against spin even at his best when starting his innings.

Maybe. tbh I just assume that all Indian batsmen are better against spin than seam, especially in English conditions.

Things looking significantly easier now that the ocatgenarian isnt bowling. Ball's also stopped moving around. Rohit a good chance for a huge score here, he's looked great.
