What time did Tomic's and Cilic's first round match start and finish?
Started 10.20pm, finished 2.10am. Roughly.

I mainly objected to his comments that he would have won the match if played during the day... that really bugs me. He's playing with the men now, so he's just got to suck it up.

Jankovic played pretty terribly there, never even looked remotely like getting going. I'm not so sure this new serve of hers is doing the trick.

Meh. I think he has a point in some ways about the late start and late finish. Seriously it's not good for anyone having a non rain affected match go so late in the early stages of the tournament.

I don't see why there can't be a rule in place that in the first week of tennis if the games aren't behind schedule that the tennis finishes at an agreed time, say midnight.

The guy was a wildcard into the tournament wasn't he? He should be happy to just be in the draw, let alone on centre court and on national television. He should stfu, he signed up for this.

No I meant his first round match. I'm just wondering how realistic it was for a player to play say on Tuesday early morning than Thursday late at night.

Cutting off games at an allotted time would wreak havoc with sheduling over a two week period.
Other tournaments manage it. No other Slam goes on for as ridiculously long as the AO.

(Not really complaining, usually means there's some tennis on at 3pm here...)

I don't think it would cause much havoc at all. A quick look at the schedule tonight sees that a doubles match with Pat Rafter/Henri Leconte is on tonight. There heaps of available time and doubles matches can always be shifted to the outside courts.

Pretty disappointed for Clijsters too..

Can't believe Tomic complained about that, needs to grow up and stop acting like a spoilt brat.

Henin through to the next round so we still got one fairytale girl. Really shocked at Clijsters performance, don't think I've ever seen her taking a thrashing like that.

Pretty sure the US Open have had matches go very very late in the past few years. Think I remember some matches being played in front of a dozen people on one of the stadium courts at midnight.

Great match from Henin, she looked really awful early on, but picked herself up for a great win.

Shocked at Clijsters though, really shocked. Did not see that one coming...

Oh dear Kim!

If Kohlschreiber breaks Rafa here in the 4th set we could be in for an EPIC night!

Btw, most of the Australian public have rolled their eyes at Tomic's comments.

Surely someone should get in his ear. If he's the next big thing of Australian tennis someone should take him under their wing and groom him not to make a fool of himself.

You're playing with men, deal with what you get. You don't get favours because you're 17.

Hmm... Kuznetsova losing the first set pretty convincingly. Hasn't been a good day for a lot of the women's seeds; Jankovic, Clijsters, Kleybanova, Bartoli. And Ivanovic lost as well last round.

And just as I write that, the commentators decide to start talking about it. Interesting.

Oh wow Venus vs. Dellacqua is in the day.

I'll have Wozniacki vs. Peer after the Hewitt vs. Baghdatis match.

Hope that's competitive. I rate Peer, and Wozniacki is gun.

Always been a big Kohlschrieber fan but we saw last night why he has average results, his game suggests he should be top 10 or 15 but he has the mental capacity of your average Russian womens player when he gets chance.

Stoked 7 are showing Haas and Tsonga at the moment, good we got to see Tommy take the second set.

It's been an interesting day today; two retirements and one walkover. Not what you expect really at this stage of the tournament, but not altogether unexpected either...
