Nadal beat Cilic, Federer-Del Potro has gone to the 3rd set. Federer just broke.

Yeah this round will go to Rafa...he is in terrific form and Feds is still rusty after a long layoff...

Court should favour Fed on paper.. but Rafa is indeed in great form and been fantastic on HCs this year. Should be fun.

What's up with these weird returns from Rafa

Federer's serving against him in their matches this year has been fantastic. He's really messed up Nadal's return position by S&V'ing every once in a while.

He's barely played any backhand slices. Been a huge factor against Rafa this year.

Flawless performance,thougg Rafa looked out of sorts. Fed's made it his mission to correct that H2H before retirement. 23-15 looks way better than whatever the **** it used to be.

And he's doing it at ****ing 36! Helps that he ducked the clay season, mind you.

Fed's put in some of his best performances at Shanghai, remember him demolishing peak Djokovic with a similar performance in 2014. One of my favourite Federer matches, that one.

Yes, 23-15 is actually a much better reflection of the closeness of their rivalry than 23-10. Nadal squeaked out a lot of tight wins earlier in their rivalry where Fed would seem to lose concentration for stretches of the match. And of course, they did play a lot on clay earlier and very little indoors or on fast HCs, so good to see that evening out.
