And what does that imply? I mean what do you think can be his reason for being unreasonable?

(didn't quote the rest of your post, because there you were actually agreeing with my 'unreasonable' comment)
His reason for being unreasonable? I dont care... maybe the frustration of being humiliated 4-0 twice in a row? Frustration of playing decently but not getting the 100th 100 for a whole year?
His statement didnt really imply any love for the team, it just came off as him putting down australia's win to one single thing (a big partnership) instead of acknowledging their overall superiority. Pretty clear really

I agree, but does that imply anything other than him defending his team from criticism? I know the attempt to defend such criticism looked a little desparate in this case, but does that imply anything other than his love for the team he plays?
tbf I think he could say completely undefendable things, and people would find a way to construe them in a positive light.

I fail to see how the 2 can't co-exist (love for the team and undermining opposition's achievements). I think they are quite related, in fact.

Btw, someone needs to quote that full statement first and what question was he responding too. Not seen it myself and even though it is a minor type of statement that most players make to defend his team and put a positive spin , want to know the context.

At the end of the day:

- Sachin should not have had a media blackout in Australia;
- Sachin should have not brushed over the Australia series and put it down to single partnerships; and
- Sachin should have mentioned the fact that we lost to Bangladesh in the match he got his hundred and acknowledged our sucktitude in all forms of the game recently.

The article is a little over the top, but I get what he is saying, and I mostly agree.
I agree with the second and third without knowing the context but that is something which Dhoni, Sehwag and basically anyone from the board who has spoken about the recent series has said too. Even Dravid pretty much said something similar in his retirement press conference. Nothing new or majorly shocking there, even though the reaction should be better from all.

And as for the first part it wasn't a media blackout for Australia specifically. He just doesn't speak during series these days generally anywhere, whatever be the result like many other players internationally.

Anyways, Mukul Kesavan specializes in picking up minor statements/issues going into hyperbole and writing articles about it and coming to a conclusion, even when there is ample evidence to the contrary too. He did the same with Anna Hazare and his team, even writing articles on sentences taken out of context....

Nope but I wish it was. His post was factually correct and concise as well.

High standards for CC :p

Did Tendulkar not speak to the media at all during the WI test series?
He just spoke to Mid day mumbai once a few days before the series began at Wankhede, i think.

Didn't give interviews in SA, England or Australia unless he had too after getting one of those awards at the presentation ceremony IIRC. Don't remember clearly about Newzealand or Srilanka, but he isn't too keen on giving interviews these days unless he has too after, crossing a landmark like 15,000 runs or is present at a felicitation ceremony organised by someone etc....

I don't think the guy is a statesman-type figure or a leader of men or even much of a spokesman. His life revolves around his batting but to look up to him for much else is being naive. He gave up the captaincy for the MI this year too didn't he? He's truly an example of "by sheer weight of runs" because there's precious little human that he's disclosed over the years. He doesn't have to, of course, but that's what makes a guy like Warne so endearing. ***-fiend, booze-sodden chain smoker FTW.

But that just makes him seem a **** tbh. Who's giving him media advice, Sidhu?

Don't see why tbh? He doesn't want to speak to the media unless he is in a situation where he is actually forced too. As it is they talk about him and some landmark more than anything else and when every small comment causes some strange articles, programmes and headlines can't blame him for avoiding either.. For example some headlines made out of taking Dhoni's comments out of context in Australia were lolworthy.

Also, it is team policy i think these days to give the younger players more chances to talk with the media post match as whatever they say causes less controversy and is given less of air time. :p

Also wrt the media blitz after giving his hundred he gave interviews to most of the main channels and did mention the loss to Bangladesh in many of them. Plus he had some felicitiation ceremonies organised by some companies, friends and the board for him which the media if anything went overboard in covering.

There was a couple of ceremonies organised for Dhoni too in Jharkhand where he was even singing which was not covered much, while Sehwag has been all over the Newspapers and Delhi Radio since coming back too.

He's had no chance to lead a proper life since he was around 19-20 tbf.

That doesn't justify not giving a press conference, but it justifies not sharing everything with everyone, or being a "regular joe". How do you be a regular joe when people treat you like a God every day of your life?

Because if you are given what amounts to your second valedictory tour where you're treated with nothing but respect and admiration as a tourist, but give nothing back to the public treating you that way, then go home and coincidentally give your first post-match interview in a year after achieving a personal milestone, it makes you look like a ****.
