he has been good but nowhere near ABDV... Maybe because ABDV hasn't played in a while, it just gets forgotten how much better he is than the rest as a fielder. Doesn't help that he keeps in ODIs too, I guess..
I don't think you'll actually find anybody who rates ABDV's fielding higher than me. He's clearly the best in the world and my complaint was with the idea "Bell's just good". For the past few months he's been practically flawless, there was the missfield the other night in the wet but besides that I can't think of any dropped catches nor missfields for 4 etc but there have certainly been some stunning stops at point/cover. I can't think of any run outs but on the other hand I can't remember too many chances he's had.

If you had to pick a current specialist fielders XI, would he make people's team?

He's not even the best in the England team.

But then Bresnan's the worst opening bowler in the world...

Probably, but I think that might be a bit of an indictment on the lack of absolutely outstanding fielders around.

I'd definitely have de Villiers, Duminy, Clarke, Steve Smith and Anderson ahead of him. Probably Ponting, haven't watched him enough to judge if he's gone from ATG to just very good properly.

Raina is pretty good. Both in the inner circle and in the Slips. Hits the stumps often too.

Kohli is slightly behind him for me.

Cevno beat me to it :)
I was about to type the same after seeing the list by GF. Would be interesting if someone can make a specialist fielders XI for the discussion.

Yeah, pretty obviously so. He's a genuinely excellent fielder.

Broad's a reasonable ring fielder as well, is fairly quick and is good in the air. Good commitment on the ground too, saves a fair few boundaries and it's difficult to get runs past him (helps that he's a tree). Good thing too, otherwise he'd come off like a right old hypocrite given how easily he goes off when someone misfields off his bowling (although now that I think of it, all England's bowlers are pretty bad in that regard. Swann especially)

Apparently it's a deliberate policy, it's been said in interviews, all England bowlers slag off bad fielding, seems to work for us, not my idea of proper cricket though.

For me it is Bell and ABdV as the best International fielders in the world, then a huge gap. Obviously people like Collie are as good, but he's out of the picture presently.

Bell's catching round the bat is world class. Easily best in the world at present. While we've seen in this ODI series just how incredible he can be out in the deep as well!

Michael Clarke would be pushing these two, but since his back went he's fallen away.

I just searched for Bell's fielding efforts in youtube. They are minuscule compared to the number of videos the other brilliant fielders in the world have.
And before someone pounces on it, I agree that youtube videos are not the yardstick to be the greatest fielder but it sure is a guide or we can say indicator about the same.
Rhodes, Gibbs, De villiers, Ponting and Colly have numerous numerous videos showcasing their brilliance on the field.

I can't think of anyone better at short leg. I also can't remember the last time we had one in an ODI, which means it's not entirely relevant to Bell's limited overs credentials.

In one day cricket, Bell's not even the best fielder on his own side. He's probably not in the top three.

Yeah, this entire, Bell best fielder in the world thing, has come out of the blue for me. He really isn't. Would still rather have Colly even though he isn't what he was. Actually I'd rather have him in the side over Bell, KP, Bopara or Stokes, TBH.

Ah crap we are batting first again, seeing the amount of grass on the pitch, dont see us winning this match too

Finn in for Dernbach. Not convinced he's a big improvement as far as one day cricket goes but Dernbach really did have to go. Probably would've gone Patel myself.

You mean batting first?

Dhoni losing the toss again FFS!!

Seems another green pitch. Also RP keeps his place and so does Munaf.

I just dont understand why did they brought aaron in squad when they had no intention of playing him. Whats the harm in trying him? its not like he will bowl more worse than RP and munaf had done this series.
