How he's not in the test side I'll never know, its a disgrace. I love watching him bat, he's performed all 3 times I've seen him live this year (against Victoria and 1st and 2nd ODIs against Aus).
I will 2590234802nd that.

36.45 and 39 ar almost the same? Not really.

I have not commented on his last 2 year performance in any manner.
I would have thought that Gilchrist has played a lot more games than Sehwag.

Clutching @ straws. :p Unfortunately we are discussing cricket Statistics and not discussing mean median, mode and SD. Because with your logic BRADMAN (in TESTs) will have the biggest S.D. and using the SD theory you would end up taking Sehwag over BD. ;)

I would rather have a player who has higher consistenct to convert his 10s, 20s & 30s into bigger scores(read 100s or 50s) than a player who would constantly give me a 30.
Who is BD?

Ah right so Flintoff wasn't putting much effort in was he?

I wonder if the same went for Sangakkara too. =-/

But in fairness to Watson he did bowl a lot better after Gayle and Sangakkara had stopped plastering him.

As for my opinion of this match it was a pretty poor evert by the World XI in the end and one they threw away. Once again they made a mistake by sending Kallis in ahead of Lara who would have been likely to be to keep going with the quick run rate (at over 7 an over) and plus he would have time to get in.

I hope Kallis said sorry to his team because his batting was a joke. Not only did he keep finding the fielders and slowing down their progess (ok I know he has to get in) but his poor running cost them two run outs (even before the run outs he looked like a run out waiting to happen). But for what I have said Gayle's six off Clark was something really special and surely cutting a ball for six (not a top edge) is the hardest shot in the world?

And another thing is that IMO Ponting did captain well, he made the right choice in batting first, kept faith with his bowlers, and took the gamble of using his two powerplays in over number 14 and the result? 4 wickets after he was able to get the scoring rate down after the first ten overs had expired. And packing the field in the field for the two powerplays also helped fustrate Kallis and he threw his wicket and the overall his team's chances.
Actually, that Gayle six was off Brett Lee, which makes the stroke even better. A la Sachin off Shoaib in the WC 2003.

so much so, that you werent certain as to whether england would make the finals of the natwest series?
I meant the games against Australia.

With the 3rd side being Bangladesh I was always sure we'd get the final.

Gee tooextra i think one A Gilchrist might disagree there m8, opens the batting in ODI but bats at 6 for aussies in tests.
That's irrelevant though because he's talking about players who normally bat at 3 or 4 suddenly coming in at 6 or 7 in the same form of the game...

I would have thought a format such as the 71/72 series would have been better, with practice matches and more than one test. Obviously that will never happen.
The problem was they couldn't take any more time out of the winter because of the touring schedules of the countries.

Low 30s is not fairly good - and the S/R is irrelevant in talking about average.
To put it into context, Collingwood averages about the same as Sehwag and Colly plays on worse pitches, often comes in with less than 10 overs left or when England are in deep trouble.

While talking about a player in one day cricket though strike rate isnt irrelevent.
